Riley's team is also in a warm weather party city where there is no state income tax.

Being in warm weather has nothing to do with the free agents and trades that Ainge has made the last few years versus Riley. Riley has probably spent less money on free agents and trades with better results.

Miami gets free agents because guys force their way there.  Butler wanted to play in Miami.  Oladipo wanted to play in Miami.  LMA wants to play in Miami.

Riley gets credit for making excellent draft picks -- Bam, Herro -- and for finding some diamonds in the rough like Nunn and Robinson.  In terms of free agency, though, Miami has a built in advantage.

Wow.  Literally for free.
Yeah, I don't know why Boston didn't go after him instead of Fournier.  Would have made way more sense and actually might have made a difference in a playoff series.

Still a lot of question marks about his ability to return from injury I expect.  He only shot 40% from the field and 32% from three this season so far, and his net rating was a pretty horrible -12 as well (hasn't had a decent one since the 18/19 season).  That plus I think Danny specificaly wanted a shooter, and Oladipo has never really been an above average outside shooter.

Cost likely would have been higher as well.  The cost for Fournier was Teague (who's been pretty much useless), two second round picks (who cares), and $15.5M or so of the TPE (leaving around $14M left for the offseason).

Oladipo is on $21M and Boston could only use $19M of the TPE (hard capped from the TT signing) so they would had to use more of the TPE and would have had to give up a player that's actually useful - Bradleys value is least equal to Teague's and lets be hones...Kelly Olynyk is better then all but maybe 5 or 6 of the guys the Celtics roster.

Danny also doesn't like gambling on rentals.  It's possible Fournier expressed an interest in re-signing in the off season, while Oladipo may not have.

Probably because Victor has said that he wanted to be in Miami,
Lol.
Who cares if he doesn't cost anything to acquire, then you acquire him.

So in addition to the draft pick swap, which two rotation players on the C’s would you have given up for Oladipo?
Houston doesn't care about Bradley or KO, they just wanted to move up in the draft.  Boston could have just absorbed Oladipo in the TPE, traded its 21 1st, and Houston would have been ecstatic.  And because Boston wants to avoid the tax it sends Theis to Houston.   I believe that gets Boston below the tax, but if not you also send Green to Houston with some cash so they can cut him.

That team is a lot better than what Boston has right now and if Durant never comes back (or doesn't come back looking like a top 5 player) then all of a sudden Boston has a real shot to come out of the East because it now has 4 all star caliber players.  It has defensive toughness.  Another scoring option.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
