Nice move Miami. Legit title contender now.

Jimmy Butler + Bam + Oladipo

That is a strong nucleus to build around.

Wonder if Houston regrets flipping LeVert for Oladipo now.

I'm still confused by them not wanting Jarrett Allen

Perfect replacement for Clint Capela and they discarded him. Nuts.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The Rockets could have had Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert in the Harden trade. They opted for Dipo, only to trade him for 2 expirings and a 2020 pick swap (lol)? Imo, it's a terrible deal on their part. Great deal for Miami though.

Btw, I would assume that both Bradley and Kelly are buyout candidates.

Baffling that they didn't want LeVert and Allen. That would have made the deal much more reasonable for their fans. I guess they didn't want to win too many games this year(?)

Allen to the Cavs and LeVert to the Pacers were separate deals.  The Rockets wanted a 1st instead of Allen (and they also didn't want Prince's contract on the books).  I really questioned that one at the time and felt it was a huge mistake to favor a likely late 1st round pick instead of Allen.

Oladipo for LeVert was a separate part of the trade and I get the logic more on that one because it freed up a ton of salary and neither Oladipo nor LeVert is going to be a long term difference maker.  So they cleared a ton of salary to help them reset and start over with a much cleaner cap sheet.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

To clarify, the pick swap is any of the first-round picks the Rockets currently hold for the Heat pick, so could send Brooklyn's pick to Miami for the Heat pick, and not just their own.

Rockets acquire Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a 2022 pick swap  from Miami for Victor Oladipo, per source.

That makes more sense. Still not a ton of value, but that's potentially moving them up a half-dozen spots. Better than swapping their own pick.
I'm bitter.

I honestly feel like Houston managed to do everything wrong with the Harden trade.

They should've taken Simmons and whatever one of Maxey/Thybulle Morey was offering up.

Classic Pat Riley, but he doesn't do much building.  He wants to contend now.

That's a stong core, especially defensively.
Nobody likes to play against Miami. They make it tough on you.

Wow.  Literally for free.
Yeah, I don't know why Boston didn't go after him instead of Fournier.  Would have made way more sense and actually might have made a difference in a playoff series.

Probably because Victor has said that he wanted to be in Miami,
Lol.
Who cares if he doesn't cost anything to acquire, then you acquire him.

So in addition to the draft pick swap, which two rotation players on the C’s would you have given up for Oladipo?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Wow.  Literally figuratively for free.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

No but I said the same thing about Iguodala last year.

I am going back and forth.

Half of me is going "wow, that is an amazing pickup" but I worry that part of me may well be thinking too much of what Oladipo was 3+ years ago and not who he is today.

The other half of me is looking at his shooting numbers and wondering how much that will improve in Miami. How much does he improve just getting away from John Wall who I thought was a terrible fit next to Oladipo. How well does Oladipo fit next to Jimmy Butler who is a better shooter and all-round player but still not a great outside shooter. Have the lost too much outside shooting?

I kinda believe Oladipo is only an All-Star on a team where he can dominate the ball and put up big counting stats and that if not in that situation he is not an All-Star. And I wonder if that was the case even before the injury setbacks. I wonder how that translates to Miami.

And I wonder if Miami even needs him to be an All-Star or do they just need him to be a steady 15ppg 4rpg 4-5apg combo guard. Somebody who can create off the dribble and give their offense that extra versatility. Jimmy Butler as the lead. Then Dragic and Oladipo sharing secondary creation with Herro growing into an emerging off-ball scorer. And Duncan Robinson as their Kyle Korver lite. Can that work - next to the playmaking of Adebayo? It's interesting that is for sure. That 15ppg might be enough even if Oladipo can not be an All-Star anymore.

I think that's about what Miami is hoping for.  15 / 4 / 5 is excellent production for what they gave up.  Basically, Oladipo is a big upgrade over Bradley, Bjelica is a credible replacement for Olynyk, and Mo Harkless was producing nothing.  Plus, they added Ariza for a cast off and now they've going to sign Aldridge.

Bam
Aldridge
Butler
Oladipo
Herro

Bench:  Robinson, Dragic, Ariza, Iguodala, Nunn, Precious

There is some chemistry risk, but ultimately it wouldn't shock me if that team caught fire again and ended up back in the Finals.
