Russell is the obvious #1.  There are many players from just the 90s forward that I would rate better than Draymond defensively:

Jordan
Pippen
Ben Wallace
Mutombo
Olajuwon
Gary Payton
Rudy Gobert
Kawhi Leonard
Possibly Ron Artest
KG

And of course, since Tommy compared him to Russell....

Russell is no.1, pretty inarguable.

There are a bunch of next tier big men I put ahead of Draymond. Hakeem, Ben Wallace, KG, David Robinson, Dikembe, Kareem, Timmy D, Rodman, Gobert, Dwight etc.

There are more, but I just woke up ;D

Going back as far as you did, I would also include Bill Walton.

Basically most DPOY winners, and a lot more :P

That’s not even getting into wing and guard defenders

McHale before playing on the broken feet would be my number 2. They always say a player can guard 1-5 but McHale really could.

Russell and Rodman are clearly the two best defenders in league history.  I think Wallace is probably 3rd.  For overall impact I think Hakeem and Duncan are probably 4th and 5th.

After those 5, I think there are a bunch of guys you could have in the 6-10 range, but I don't think Draymond or Allen are in that group
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Neither is close to top-10.

I do think Tony could play defense in any era.  With Green, I’m less sure.  He certainly didn’t play center in the 80s or 90s, and I don’t think he would be able to do much against the great power forward, either.
