Kemba Walker + Tristan Thompson + 3 1st round picks for Vucevic + Evan Fournier

If you are DA do you do this trade?  If you are the Magic, would you accept this trade?  If not, what pieces need to change for it to go through?

I need to understand why Orlando would want these two 30 year old players?

Heck no. I am not giving up 3 1sts & Kemba for Vucevic. Huge overpay.

Stand pat and do nothing. Be patient. Better to take some short term pain than inflict long term harm.

I am all for it.

The offensive flow will be better. And in the 4th quarter we will have another offensive option down in the paint, rather than seeing Kemba, Brown and Tatum bricking 3s after 3s.

I really think this is the most important (if not the only one) trade that DA has to execute.

If no trade, then Brad needs to be replaced.

But Vucevic needs to be able to shoot lots of 3's. That's the Brad Stevens offense aka replicating the Golden State Warriors but they fail miserably.

Considering how Vucevic is averaging 40.5% from three on 6.6 attempts per game I think he'll win us a ton of games by memechucking threes lol.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
No way on 3 1sts. Also, if ORL is actually interested in Kemba, then I would think they want to hold on to Vuc. In that case, you might be able to get Gordon and Fournier for Kemba and save a bunch of 1sts in the process.

Apparently the Magic's owner has said that when Orlando is cleared of injuries they're ready to contend.

That seems crazy to me, but if that's how they feel about their team then they will certainly hang on to Vucevic unless someone comes up with a huge overpay.

I think it is both too much for us to give up and also not what Orlando would be looking for.  If you are going to trade your best player, it has to be for younger players and picks, not lesser players on worse contracts and picks that won't be that great.

In terms of the type of player we are talking about, I am all for it.  Here are some of the similar players that sometimes get talked about and their age and approximate average salary for the next few years:

Sabonis       23     $20M
Vucevic       30      $22M
JGrant         28     $20M
Turner         24     $18M
Markkanen  23      $?? (RFA)

My point is that I am not sure that Vucevic is really the player to go "all in" for.  None of these players are necessarily going to be available to us any more than Vucevic is.  It is possible that we had a chance to get Turner for Hayward but to me, he is the least valuable of these bigs.  I don't mind doing something that involves Kemba to get this type of big but I am not sure any of them are worth Kemba plus 3 future firsts.

To me, the most "gettable" (but still difficult) of these is Markkanen.  I proposed Kemba + 1 first for Markkanen and Otto Porter elsewhere.  We may end up needing to match an offer in the $20M range on Markkanen but I feel that is a better medium or long term investment than Vucevic even if Vucevic is better right now.

It’s an interesting idea, but I don’t think I would do it. If you have to give Markannen something in the teens, I think you are saying goodbye to Rob Williams; he’s getting paid at the end of this deal, and I don’t see them investing 35-40 million for two centers (pre-tax). Assuming RWIIi continues to develop I’d rather keep him. He doesn’t have the shooting, but his ceiling is, to me, plainly higher. Not just for defense, but he could give the offense some qualities it really lacks - his passing instincts are intriguing and I think he will become a good screen setter. That plus his lob threat unlock some interesting options.

Maybe the idea is to get off Kemba’s deal, and I do see the value in that. But Chicago has been carrying Porter’s bloated contract and they finally see the end - it’s expiring end of this year. Will they want to pick up Kemba for two more years? I don’t think they would do this trade.
