As long as he doesn't cost us one of our core 4 I would be open to trading for him.

Career offensive rating 108
Career defensive rating 111

Why do we want to trade anything of substance for him and then pay up again in free agency?
Jaylen Brown's Career ORTG 107.  His career DRTG 108.  Kemba Walker is 109, 109.  Even Tatum is only 109, 105.

It seems like you seem to not really understand what that measures.

I know the net on each is better than Markkanen's. Same with Smart. If we use Real +/- for Markkenan and Smart we end up with an inferior player with a soon-to-be higher cap hit if we do this deal. Markkanen has missed about 30% of CHI games during his career, misses a lot of games every year, and has missed more games than he's played this season. His career 56 TS% is about as average as you can get and he doesn't do anything else well.

Markannen is made of glass. Haven't we had enough of large contract players who rarely play?

@somebody -- who is your core 4? Brown, Tatum, Smart, Williams?

I think Markannen would be great in Boston. He’s not a center, so we need to banish those thoughts, but he could be a really good scoring/stretch four that plays off of Brown and Tatum.

I agree.  He is the kind of player we need.  Whether he is a PF or a C makes no difference to me.  He would pair well with any of Theis, Williams, or Thompson.

Now I say that with the realization that I don't have any real knowledge of his durability or what the cost will be in terms of trade or signing but I like him as a player and as a fit to fill needs on the team.

Not trading Smart for a player of Markkanen's caliber, no matter how much I'd like to see the Celts find a true pick and pop threat to play off J&J.

Also this trade would mean giving up two solid rotation players to add one solid rotation player at a position where the Celts already have too many players.

The Celts need to add MORE quality rotation players.

For the package reported./espected to get Barnes (Nesmith + 1 or 2 first) I think I would even prefer Barnes. So no way to give Smart for him, who is frustrating but just have to take the 4th/5th shooting tickets to end the match and stop hero ball. Then he will be wonderfull for us. There are queit a lot of Markanen in the league. There is only one Smart.

Rotation players aren't going to elevate Boston into contender status, whereas someone like Markkanen could in a season or two.  You fill out the rotation once you have a good enough core.  Boston doesn't have a good enough core.

I love Markkanen. He could be one of the very best offensive players in the league if he played the center position instead of as a forward. He would be a matchup nigthmare at center with his speed and shooting ability. He would enhance and enable everyone around him to be more effective because of how he would imbalance opposing team's defenses with his scoring & shooting as a center.

I see him as a modern day Bob McAdoo as a small ball center.

That is fair, I just disagree.  I think he could be an incredible offensive player and he has plenty of room to grow defensively as well.  He isn't there yet of course, but I don't think Tatum is where he needs to be yet either.

I think Markannen would thrive under Stevens. He'd be a great fit in the offense next to Tatum and Brown, as he doesn't need the ball in his hands and can space the floor.

me too!  I think a Smart-Brown-Tatum-Markkanen-Timelord starting lineup next year I would be interesting.
