League sources said the Boston Celtics could trade their starting center by the March 25 trade deadline with the Toronto Raptors being a possible destination.

Thompson is averaging 7.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in his first season with the Celtics after signing a two-year, $19 million deal that includes a player option in the second year.

I don't think TT deserves as much hate as he generally gets online.  He competes hard, grabs board, finishes over smaller guys.  Seems like he's pretty much doing what you would have expected him to do when they signed him.

He hasn't made a positive impact defensively and he has been too focused on trying to score inside instead of passing, both of which are somewhat disappointing given how he had played, at least at times, on the Cavs.

You could chalk up those issues to a lack of familiarity with the Celts and the system.  Always good to remember that none of these guys had training camp this year and Thompson, like Teague, was off for like 9 months due to COVID.

At this point the Celts have minutes for 2 centers and 3 guys who deserve time, including TT.  Rob is too good to trade.  I like Theis, but he may be hard to afford for the Celts this summer.  Regardless, I hope with Thompson or Theis gets moved at the deadline just to clean up the rotation.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

He’s actually been playing better as of late. And I’m
Not a fan of him.

It depends on the situation he is sent to.

Boston could tell him he is going to lose minutes but Toronto wants him for their playoff push.

Baynes is a shell of himself this season. I guess he'd be a decent 3rd stringer behind Theis and Time Lord. The second year on his contract is a team option. He's practically an expiring.

Alternatively:

Imo, the C's need more passing and shooting. Satoransky fits the bill. He has a shooting split of 51.9-43.8-90.9 this season while averaging 4.5 assists and only 1.6 t/o per game. He's a high BBIQ combo guard who thrives in the half court. He's also 6'7" which means he'd be a nice fit in our switch-heavy defensive scheme.

I'm not usually a fan of your trade proposals, but I love the Satoransky idea. Satoransky can replace Teague, who has been used more as an off guard, and you could send him to Chicago instead of Edwards.

Or send Edwards. He will be gone eventually anyway. I just don't see him as an NBA caliber player.

Can the Celtics get a lotto protected 1st out of such a trade which they could then combine with their own pick and the TPE for a player like.... do I really need to name the obvious players again.

I mention it as part of trades in the past and it was negatively received but I think something like this is very likely

Raptors gets Thompson

Celtics get Baynes, (2023) 2nd, and (2025) 2nd. (or maybe a heavily protected 1st that converts into two seconds.

Baynes becomes the 3rd big who racks up DNPs when Theis and Williams are healthy or vs Embiid.

I imagine he would welcome a trade to the Raptors where he would clearly be the starting 5

So the Celtics send out one of the top rebounders in the game and a good defender and all around good player to our direct rival to get back a guy that has, by all accounts, had his game fall off a cliff. A guy that should be racking up DNP-CDs like crazy.

So the Raptors get better, the Celtics get worse, all for a couple of future second rounders, that, if we are exceedingly lucky, could be as good as Semi is now..... 6-8 years from now?

No thank you.

Yeah, I don't get it either. We're gonna pawn off a contributing role player for a worse role player that's going to rack up dnps? If we're gonna trade Thompson, trade him for a role players that fulfills a need.

Thompson for Satoransky would be awesome. He’s such a solid player.

Not sure who else there is in a TT deal. Feel like Theis probably has higher value
