Lakers made sense in Minny. In LA, it's a stupid name.

We have no real lakes in LA LOL. Except Lake Elsinore in Riverside county or Silverlake lolol

Not true...lol..There is a lake at McArthur Park by Langers..lol...I heard Lake Elsinore referred to as Lake Smell Some More. Is it that bad?

It's basketball-related, and innocent enough, so why bother?

If you want to be annoyed, pick on truly bad sports names like the Chiefs, The Indians, the Redskins, etc.  Get it?

I could never stand the Nets name. It’s awful. When they were discussing name changes I thought it would end up  the “Ballers”.
If it was my franchise of name then the Dodgers as an ode to the baseball team and use their logo and design only change the ball of course.

Meh rarely drive by that lake. I live around 30 miles away from the actual city so not that big of a guy in LA. I've been to Lake Elsinore once. It's pretty alright but it's like somewhat hidden. Lotta boaters. And always hear stories about corpses there tho  :-X

Name came from the New York Nets, in the ABA days.

Was chosen to be in line with the NY Mets, and the NY Jets.  99% sure that is how they chose it. Makes sense to me.

The only team name that really bugs me is the Wizards.  Because like someone said, it sounds like a minor league team.  Plus, I loved the name Bullets and jerseys/color schemes that went along with it.

The Thunder is pretty 'meh.'  Same with the Magic and the Heat, but they kind of have their own histories now, so now i dont mind them.  I've always like the Heat's uniforms.

I actually like the Pelicans, because it's so unique and goofy.  i also like the teams that were relocated and the names make no sense.  Grizzlies, Jazz, Lakers.

Yeah, I get it. Obviously teams pick names because of a positive connotation.
Chiefs, Indians, Braves, Redskins, RedMen, Buccaneers, Rangers, Cowboys, BlackHawks, Commodores
All names chosen out of pride. The PC crowd loves to be victims.

"Nets" never bothered me, I guess because it's basketball-related.

I generally dislike collective singular names—Heat, Magic, Thunder (though I like Jazz, probably because it's been around my whole life and I was just used to it). I'm not a big fan of Pelicans (I actually prefer the shortened "Pels," but even that is nothing great). I kinda dislike Wizards, partly because I think Washington should still be the Bullets, and partly because Wizards, on its own, is kinda minor-league-ish.

I think New Orleans should've sued Utah for the rights to "Jazz," and then the Jazz should've taken a different, more Utah-appropriate name.

Agree with you Rock-n-Roll, on all counts.
I miss the Bullets and hate the fact that it was the PC crowd that forced the new name.
I doubt the murder rate in D.C. declined after the change.

The Bullets were changed as a reaction to the assassination of Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin, a very close friend of then-owner Abe Pollin.

That was not my understanding at all. I never heard that reference. Hope you are right, though I still miss the name.
