At least it wasn't those OT's where only 1 team touches the ball.  I hate those so much.  I really wish they'd get rid of that ability.

Same. Even that rule where if the first team goes and scores a TD they win, I don't like that. Both teams should have a chance.

The only exception should be if the defense gets a turnover and returns it for a TD OR they get a safety.

well then the other team touches it, just on defense.

Yeah but the offense doesn't so it's still an exception I guess  :P

I think we're now seeing a trend that having a dual-threat QB, as nice as it sounds might not be the most effective strategy when you're hoping for long term success.

This isn't to say you can never win a Super Bowl with that QB, but there's a lot of risk involved too.

Look at yesterday. Josh Allen had a fantastic game which included 12 rushes for 109 yards and he had some big plays. But throughout the 2nd half he took some hard hits and after the game was in a walking boot with a left leg injury (not serious, but noteworthy still). Lamar Jackson left yesterday's game with a sprained ankle but he's also been pretty inconsistent this season as well.

Kyler Murray has missed some time for the Cardinals due to an ankle injury and he's a similar kind of QB too.

Obviously we've seen the sad downfall of Cam Newton as well after a great start to his NFL career, partially due to a poor O-Line but also his playing style which put him at a lot of risk for injury which has definitely made an impact and has affected him in recent years to the point where he's pretty much close to the end, if not already.

I have been saying this for years to family and friends and on this site.

My brother has a motorcycle and crashed and messed up his leg. He told me its no big deal because there are only two types of riders: those riders that have gone down and got injured and those that will go down and get injured.

I feel that way about two way QB threats. Those type QBs come in two types. Ones that have gotten injured running the ball and ones that will get injured running the ball. It's not a question of will they get injured. It's a question of when they get injured.

To be fair Lamar got hurt on a passing play.  The classic plant to throw and a big DL rolls up on your ankle.  In fact most QB injuries are on either blind side hits (which generally are on in the pocket) or plays like Lamar where they are throwing and get their legs taken out (so ankle or knee injuries).  There are certainly the big hits out in the field that concuss a QB or otherwise have them injured, but by and large if a QB gets hurt it is when they are passing.

Per ESPN, Urban Meyer has been fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wow, season didn't even end yet and he didn't even last one full NFL year.

Well he was a disaster not just on but off the field, they really had no choice.

Athletic directors and their subordinates hide as much bad behavior from the coaches and players as they can. A lot of times with help from boosters.

Meyers has been protected that way throughout his college career. He thought he could coach and act the same way under the increased lights of the NFL and that crap just doesn't work on the NFL level.

He's now paid the price for that. He probably won't get hired in the pros again or next year in the college ranks, but by 2023, some huge college program will hire him. His act works in college coaching and in an interview he will say he has learned his lesson and will tone things down.

Timing sucks for Meyer because 2 college jobs he might have actually taken were open a few weeks ago i.e. USC and ND. Though I'm not sure either program would have actually hired him, but those 2 would have been at least intriguing for Meyer.

Meyer is one of the biggest scumbags out there.  Now he'll go down as one of the all time biggest NFL coaching busts.  What a disaster of a tenure.

The ironic thing is that he'll almost certainly land on his feet back in the college ranks.

Past time for Urban to go.  Kinda feel like he should have his ass kicked on his way out the door.  The way he treats people is repulsive.

I randomly caught the second half of the Grey Cup last weekend (Canadian Football League championship). It was very captivating.  Did anyone else catch this on ESPN2??  There are all sorts of different rules, but I got the jist of it pretty quickly.  3 downs instead of 4, a 1 point "rouge" if the receiving team doesn't return the ball out of the end zone on a kick off, and some very different OT rules (all of which would come into play).  The wind was also a huge factor.

It was perhaps one of the worst chokes I've ever seen.  It was Hamilton vs defending champs Winnipeg.  Hamilton hadn't won the Cup in 22 years and was playing on their home field.  They blew a 10 point lead in the 4th, and were down 2 with a few minutes left.  Winnipeg  kicked off and the Hamilton retruner took a knee in the end zone, which gave the Winnipeg an extra point and made it a field goal would only tie the game.  Sure enough they march down the field and have a guy drop a catchable ball in the end zone that would have won it, then kick a field goal to send it to OT.  Predictably the wind was out of their sails at this point and they lost in OT.

Very dejected and bewildered team and fans for Hamilton.

Horrible choke job!

It'll probably be another 20 years until I wach another CFL game, but that was pretty entertaining.
