I don't know that it does the world any good to lock a person up forever for making such a horrible mistake.

But it is a profound tragedy and I hope he uses whatever time and resources he has left to him to make amends.

Maybe by preventing him from killing any more innocent people? DUI is one thing. DUI at 156MPH shows a complete and utter disregard for the safety of those around him.

Forcing him into treatment and taking away his right to drive a vehicle might accomplish the same thing.  Not to say that's all that should happen to him.

But putting a person in a cage for years and either never letting them out or only letting them out when they're old ... that's an enormous thing to do.  I'm generally very skeptical of the societal value of locking people up, especially for extended periods of time.

It's satisfying from an emotional standpoint, but hard to justify in terms of the cost and when you look for actual tangible benefits.

The sad truth in the wake of a tragedy like this is that the person who died can no longer contribute anything positive to the world.  It is still possible that Ruggs could.  That's not an argument against punishment of any kind, but I do think it's important to push back against our cultural programming which tells us that people who make horrible tragic mistakes like this should be thrown away and forgotten about.
It wasn't a mistake.  He chose to drive after drinking too much rather than calling a car service.  He chose to drive 150+ miles per hour.  Bad choices are not mistakes.

The value of locking Ruggs up is that it holds him accountable.  If society doesn't do that, victims will be justified to seek their own accountability.  The value of locking Ruggs up is that he can't drive drunk and kill someone else while he's incarcerated.  The value of locking Ruggs up is that it will positively impact other people's choices at least temporarily.  Someone is going to call a car service or make sure to have a designated driver.

Well said.  This is spot on.

OBJ's release is pending. Apparently they have reworked his contract to make it more palatable to whoever claims him on waivers. Any interest? I think he could provide value on a team who is starving for wideout play.

Is OBJ a good WR? I haven't seen evidence recently to prove this. He hasn't had a 100 yard game since 2019.

Exactly my thought. Defense looks like they’ve arrived, but then you think it’s Carolina and their O-line is bad and further banged up today.

Two giveaways at the Panther 30 and pats up 14-6.   Look good today.

What a crazy week in the NFL. I'm so done with pick'em, lol.

Yeah, I've was keeping track of that one for obvious reasons. The over/under was 48.5. The Pats all of a sudden are just .5 game back in the division. Man, those 1 pt, 2 pt, OT losses are killer right now, but there's still a chance this season. Nice win today - dominating defensive performance!

Not to mention DE Josh Allen was having a field day against QB Josh Allen. It's like what they say...the hardest opponent will always be yourself  ;D

The Pats could've easily been 8-1...dang.

True, but it would've been, IMO, a shaky 8-1, if there is such a thing. And we fans would've been riding high on a team that wasn't dominant and could fall at any time, given they have a rookie QB and a bunch of other newbies. On the whole, though, I'm happy with where they're at.
