We have supposedly the best shooter in the draft on a team that needs shooter and the coach sits him on the bench.  Two rookies picked lower than him are having good years.  What am I missing

It's the same thing I'm missing.

A N A L Y T I C S.    That is what you are both missing.

Is that how you spell 26% from 3!

It is how you explain whatever is not patently obvious especially those things that fly in the face of the obvious.

I spell 26% from the three as BUST.   But it is a little early for that but it is odd that CBS won't even let him see the light of day.   But Nesmith for whatever reason is not getting a chance.

I mean his stats

are not much worse than Grant's
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willigr01.html

Considering the time played, and the per 36 is comparable.   Yet CBS won't play him.   He seems to try a lot harder, but can get lost on D.

I think CBS is terrible at developing young talent and benefited from getting Tatum and Brown in this regard.   They were very good and developed on their own.   But a lot of our guys have not improved or regressed.   His jerking out guys who make one mistake while tolerating dud favorites like Grant has to kill players confidence.  Rob has always had a lot more potential than some of other bench guys, it looks like things are starting to click for him but it still looks like CBS still does not trust him.

Yeah, Brad had deep sixed Nesmith for no apparent reason, although he did play Nesmith more minutes vs Kings.   Danny Ainge on Toucher and Rich the day or two before was kind of hinting that he'd like to see Nesmith play more, without coming out and saying it; gave Brad the (I think lame) excuse that the team needed to play more ball handlers so that Tatum and Brown didn't get worn out bringing the ball up.  I wonder if Brad's decision to play Nesmith again was somewhat a response to Ainge's comments?  Who knows.

We really need to see what he has and see less Grant.  Nesmith at least has an athletic base and just needs confidence, I think.  You can tangibly see his effort when he comes out, he plays hard.   He does make mistakes on defense.   He bends way too much at the waist on D, and not enough with his knees which throws him off balance a lot.  But it has to be hard to get going when you know you'll be yanked at the slightest mistake.   I think his hurt Rob too, but he got to watch a lot and that can help raw guys.

I don't get it, CBS plays guys who don't produce all the time.   Why not Nesmith?  The returns we are getting on Grant minutes

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/nesmiaa01.html
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willigr01.html

are not much better than Nesmith.

The floor is a lot lower on him as well as he has a 26 inch standing vertical as opposed to Nesmith's 34 inch standing vertical.    28" is the average no step vertical leap.  Nesmith's max vertical was 42" whereas Grant's was about equal to Nesmith's no step vertical.  Now vertical is not everything but it  helps a lot in fighting for rebounds, blocking shots, getting your shot off in the post.   For reference Rob max vertical is 44".

Smart players can over come a low vertical but Grant who is sharp as a tack has not done well in this regard.   He needs to embrace contact a little more and bang for those rebounds.   Nesmith is surprising athletic.  The question is can he get his head on straight and capitalize on that athletic potential.

Yep.  And that’s a serious problem.  Right on the coach.  This team need depth and you sit your lottery picks on the bench.  While other teams use them and get benefit from them.  Ainge has had terrible picks since Stevens has been coach.  I wonder if there’s a connection.

I’m not a big Bane defender, but — why not? Pritchard has been playing from the jump, and plenty of other rookies have featured prominently in Stevens rotations. Belichek, he is not.

Langford and Nesmith’s problems don’t mean Bane wouldn’t see the floor.

The thybuille trade for Grant and Carsen a year prior to Bane is even bigger misfire by Danny. Not only we have away the best player we added 2 g leaguers who have been taking roster spots for 2 seasons now and that led to the Bane trade indirectly.
That’s what having too many assets gets you

Bane's 13 points tonight would've come in handy.

I like him, but am not crying over not keeping him.  Let's see his body of work for a couple of years before casting judgment.

He's playing tonight and I bet he scores over 10 points off the bench with 2 rbs and couple of assists and a steal in limited minutes.
