The NBA is not discussing the possibility of changing the logo from Jerry West to Kobe Bryant.

There has been support for the change, most notably by Kyrie Irving.

"Again, everything changes over time," Adam Silver said. "Nothing's permanently fixed. But the logo is iconic. As you know, we're distributed globally. Even changing the logo, purely even from a legal standpoint, isn't an easy exercise. Not that that should be the impediment ... [but] it doesn't feel to me that this is the appropriate moment to be changing the logo.

"While it's never been officially declared that the logo is Jerry West, it sure looks a lot like him. He still is thriving in our community. I know he's so self-effacing and has said, please change it if that's what people want to do. It just doesn't feel like the right moment to be thinking about that.

"That doesn't mean, again, that we won't turn back and look at it at some point. To me, I appreciate the sentiments, but it feels like the logo is appropriate right now."

Probably best to change the logo to a circular basketball with NBA in the classic red/white/blue schema we all know and love (anybody remember what the logo looked like before West?). The push to make Kobe the logo is absurd. Do we change it again the next time a HOFer dies way too young? Kyrie is probably pushing it just because he knows LeBron would hate to see Kobe memorialized that way?

So childish.

Below is the history of the logo. A basketball does make a lot more sense. Match our color scheme and bring it into the 2020s. Could be cool. Removing a player silhouette, which is unique to the NBA (generic MLBer aside) stops this nonsense from coming up again.

The last thing we need is changing the logo from one Laker to another.

I honestly can't believe NBA players and current analysts alike have such short memories about Kobe Bryant.

He literally raped a women, then his people ran such a horrible and dirty smear campaign that the state had to change the law because of it. This is also the guy that went on the radio and announced that he would never play for the Lakers again because he wanted to be traded then when he was past his prime still took the absolute max forcing the team into a lottery spin that took LeBron coming to the Lakers to halt. You can say Kobe was an amazing player but these aren't the qualities that you'd want in an NBA logo.

They should either keep the logo as Jerry West or like NFL or MLB not use a player at all.

Personally if it was to be a player it should be Bill Russell, i'd say it would have been if not for the general racism at the time. Not just for his winning but what he stood for as a teammate, players union representative, equal rights activist and overall human being.

IF they were to change the logo, it should be Michael Jordan, not Kobe.

Silver is such a boot licker. I'm amazed he didn't cave on this issue.

Kyrie is a psycho - The NBA's smartest policy would be to do whatever Kyrie doesn't want.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

It would look like such a money-grab for the NBA to change the logo to Kobe. Not the most influential modern player, and by no means is he the most influential black player, nor did he champion social justice nearly as much as many other black players.

He was the second or third best player of the 2000s who unfortunately died recently. Honour him in the All-Star game, not this.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)
