I like thinking up what if scenarios purely for fun. If anyone was interested in commenting.. But some of the game is over my head. It’s become a lot more complex for me through the years. So much more scheming.
One of criticisms of the nba is how 3 point heavy it is.
I myself liked the idea of specialists years ago. But these guys are such great deep shooters it’s easier to hit a 33 foot unguarded shot instead of a 23 foot guarded one so is there a “ cure” for this?

Would you like to see less alternate uniforms ?

   Less or no challenges?

Would you trade one more company logo on a uniform for 2 less timeouts a game per team?

Would you prefer the season be shorter?

Do you like the play-in for the playoffs?

Would you adjust the playoff format as far as # of games?

Would you have the worst record team regardless of conference be a lottery team?

How would you dish out technicals / suspensions differently?

Bring back trash talk completely?

Hand checking?  Is it possible to judge/referee the hand check fairly ?

If you could would you widen the court?

Eliminate the 3 pointer?

2 to make 3 at the free throw line?

Those were bunch off top of my head.
What rules would you like to change if you could waive a magic wand?

The court should be larger.  Primarily wider.  Ball movement would be more important.

I agree with this with the 3 point line moved back a bit.  Three point shooting has become too big of a part of the game.

Given the challenges of enlarging the court, I would move the 3 point line back even with the same sized court.  I would just remove the corner 3's.  The 3 point line would be moved back 2-3 feet and there would be no 3-point lines on the side.  I think the game would be amazingly interesting with a mid-range game re-introduced.

I would also eliminate the silly rule that if you call timeout in the last 2 minutes (or whatever it is), you get the ball in the front court.  That is ridiculous and unfair.  I've always joked that it's equivalent to calling timeout in the last 2 minutes of football and getting the ball at the 50 yard line, or doing so in the 9th inning of baseball and getting a man on second (but now they are kind of doing that ridiculous rule in extra innings of baseball).

I know it makes game way more exciting, but it's a totally unfair advantage to the team advancing the ball.  Case in point the miracle OG Anunoby shot in last year's playoffs.

It would be great to see the mid range game come back.  Post play too

I'd widen the court, add a four point shot (maybe 28 feet out), and allow more physical defense on the perimeter (hand checking etc.). If fouled shooting the three, you need to make the first two free throws to get a third free throw (make the first three on a four point shot). If a team dunks the ball, the opposing team needs to hold the ball for one second before passing in-bounds (except in the last 2 minutes of the game or last possession of a quarter). Allow all goaltending except where the ball is over the cylinder or has touched the backboard.

I'd make foul hunting and flopping (fully enforced) fouls. And I'd call technicals more stringently for complaining to refs.

A foul is a foul!  I don't agree with, he didn't get that call because he's a rookie, or he got that call because he's Lebron.  Call the darn game!

Change the key violations to 5 seconds, not 3, but make them enforced strictly as opposed to not at all.

Change the goaltending rules to the European / international variant.

Enforce suspensions for flopping and foul hunting. Trae Young would have played a lot fewer games this year.

Remove all the nonsense technicals we see in today's game. Tying in with this would be bringing in a wholly new generation of officials, given the zombies we've been stuck with for decades. Would also try to enforce rules being the same for all. What a rookie gets a tech for, so does LeBron.

Change the challenge system. If you win a challenge you keep your challenge and your timeout. One per half, and another given if the game goes to OT.

Widen the court, push the 3 point line to 25 feet.

Reduce the number of jerseys a team has.

Would also be interested in a 1+1 bonus like used in college basketball, at least until 10+ team fouls. Reward good free throw shooters, punish bad ones.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

make all made shots beyond the mid-court line worth 17 points.

allow tackling, just like they do in football.

let players kick the ball, as in soccer.

no time outs for any reason.

only one substitution per half.

no one is allowed to walk or stand. you either run, jump, or bounce in place.

and players should also be allowed to eat hot dogs while playing. it would help us relate to them better.

I like most of these! I wouldn't want to see suspensions, though. You are a tougher cop than I.

Ha, maybe ;D

Just not sure how to make the incentive to not flop strong enough with fines, given how much money these guys make

It's like using a cheatcode when you are losing to help you get the W. Im with you I absolutely hate that rule.

However if I could only change one thing it would be hand checking. I no longer believe defense wins championships because what really is defense if you can't touch anyone.
ok fine

A hard cap, but more flexibility in re-structuring / waiving bad contracts.  Get rid of max contracts.
