If Beal becomes available. Danny needs to go all in (minus Tatum)

Won't be able to go far with only one go to guy... basically Tatum

Maybe Brown reaches this capability in the future. Or maybe not

Celts would have a better chance to beat the elites in the league with Tatum and Beal

Should've went all in on Harden. A no-brainer move.

Go all in on Beal, give up Brown.

Harden was a big time no brainer.

Harden is 31, had just quit on his team (much like Kyrie had done to the C's), and was trying to force his way to Brooklyn with 2 years left on a contract. I don't blame Danny for not trading Jaylen for him. Beal might be a different story, but I still don't think swapping Jaylen for Beal gets you much further.

Even after a stinker of a game for Brown (like he wasn’t just missing good shots. He was like bad-Marcus Smart out there), I’d still be on the fence with this.

The biggest reason? Kemba. I’m not convinced we can survive playing Kemba-Beal as a backcourt.

Now if we could flip Kemba for an older wing vet plus bench help, then I’d be more open to this. I don’t know who (or which teams would take on Kemba) but if I had to throw out some names: Derozan? Jerami Grant?

Make the trade.

1.  I don't think JB has the potential to become a top level superstar, that a team would need to contend.  Beal has that ability.

2.  As to defense I don't see anyone complaining but the defense of Steph Curry, James Harden, etc.

3.  Kemba may not be a great defender, but he tries.  I have never seen a scorer like him so willing to take charges.

Yeah you gotta do that if it’s available. Sure, I’d rather trade Smart + Flotsam/Jetsam for Beal, and keep Jaylen. I don’t think that will get it done. There aren’t that many guys in the league who score like Beal. He has a tremendous offensive game and that’s what you need in the playoffs when the game slows down. Tatum/Beal is less redundant and I think would play really well together. Beal will be a plus defender if he’s locked in and not depended on as the only viable scoring option on the team.

That said, his team has more holes than that. We need Timelord to be a starting caliber center capable of 30+ minutes. We desperately need a capable bench, as last night’s loss to Brooklyn proved. If this team can swing a TPE trade for Barnes, manage to stay under the hard cap this season, without giving up major rotation pieces - then land Beal next offseason - you’ve got a versatile, athletic team that can switch a lot and pack an offensive punch.

And still the bench will stink.

I'd probably do a super draft pick trade like Holiday, Harden, etc. just got.  I think something like this might work for all 3 teams.

Boston - Beal, Burks, Noel, Bullock
New York - Walker, Ojeleye, Bonga
Washington - Ntilikina, Knox, G. Williams, ~17 million TPE, BOS 1sts in 21, 23, 25, NY 22 1st (lotto)

So Boston post-trade (cut Green)
PG - Beal, Smart, Pritchard, Teague, Edwards, Waters
SG - Brown, Burks, Langford
SF - Tatum, Bullock, Nesmith
PF - Theis, R. Williams
C - Thompson, Noel, Fall

9 man Playoff Rotation - Beal, Smart, Brown, Burks, Tatum, Theis, Thompson, R. Williams, Noel
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

This isn't a debate about who will score more points, Beal or Brown.  For now, Beal is the better offensive player and overall a more valuable player and it will probably stay that way for a few more seasons anyway.

Even if we could somehow magically trade Brown for Beal straight up, I am not sure the team is enough better to make it worth it.  Beal and Kemba are far more redundant.  Both would likely adjust their games some as needed but it is still not a great line up (say Walker-Beal-Smart-Tatum-Theis).  That is a very small unit and I don't think gets us any closer to the finals.

In reality, you are probably trading Brown plus Pritchard plus a pick or maybe Brown plus Nesmith plus a pick.  I don't see it.  I like Brown and Tatum.  What we need to is keep Brown and Tatum and find a way to add a big to the mix.

Now if we could get Beal for say Walker-Nesmith-Pick, I like that for the Celtics but don't see it for Washington.  They can do much better in the off season if they want.

I just don't see how a Beal trade involving Jaylen really improves the team. I mean, sure maybe with Tatum + Beal they could win a few more regular season games, and instead of losing in 5 to PHI/BKN/MIL, they'd lose in 6 games instead. Like, meh. And I love Beal.

Now if Beal could try to force his way to Boston in a way where we could also keep Tatum and Brown, I'm all for it!  ;D

Beal, like Brown, is a borderline all-star with a career year. Except a couple years older. The upside is we probably keep Tatum and Beal around the next decade as the St. Louis Celtics. But what other moves do we make to get a Big 3 to win it all?

I do think that Brown has peaked and I do question the chemistry of Brown and Tatum behind the scenes. Beal and Tatum are lifelong friends. Beal is only 27. If it guarantees we have an all-star duo the next decade, I think I’d do Brown for Beal. But we’re still not sure how to get a Big 3...
