I’m repeating myself, but Harrison Barnes is a clean way to realistically fix this team.
The Kings have been in a free fall and their best players are younger than ours and further from competing. It makes sense to move Barnes, get youth/picks in return, and tank to maybe a top 5 pick.
Barnes isn’t an all star or all that great of a player. I don’t think he’s going to cost a lot. He does, however, fill a lot of our shortcomings. We need a forward with size who can shoot. We need someone who can average 12-15 points a game to take some of the burden off the J’s. He’s a also a decent passer who has accepted secondary roles. His veteran experience would command much more respected than our young bench players. He’s signed for two years beyond this season with a slightly overpaid but reasonable and descending salary.
Then we can make a smaller move to add a 2/3 type with shooting and scoring. Someone like Rivers or Ellington who wouldn’t cost more than one or two second round picks.
They’ll have to be some other moving parts to free up salary, maybe ship TT out. Barnes will cost a first and a little more, but it’s doable.
