Is there a team in the NBA with a worse bench than: Teague, Timelord, Semi, Pritchard, Grant Williams, Green, Waters, Edwards, Tacko?

Teague Has been bad for the most part, Timelord is getting better, but still raw, Pritchard and Nesmith are rookies. GWilliams, Waters, Edwards, Tacko and Green all belong in the G-League. It’s no wonder Jayson and Jaylen look defeated out there. They have no help.

Absolutely. We need both Smart and Walker to play every night, and at least 2 out of RWill, Nesmith, Pritchard to become steady contributors, to feel any semblance of depth.

Walker, Smart, Brown, Tatum, Theis, Thompson, RWill, Nesmith, Pritchard, maybe Semi.

and as little GWill, Green, Waters, Tacko, Edwards as possible

A veteran buyout would be nice as well, if anyone wants to come here atm.

Certainly the worst of any playoff team.

There may be a bottom 5 team that is comparable or worse.

Here are some of the "contenders" in this category

Pistons

- Svi Mykhailiuk
- Saddiq Bey
- Josh Jackson
- Sekou Doumbouya
- Isaiah Stewart

Cavaliers

- Damyean Dotson
- Cedi Osman
- Dylan Windler
- Taurean Prince
- Jarrett Allen

Timberwolves

- Jordan McLaughlin
- Jarrett Culver
- Jarred Vanderbilt
- Jaden McDaniels
- Naz Reid

I think it's hard to argue that the Celts' bench is better than any of these teams.  The Celts bench has less in the way of lottery talent and has a similar lack of experience.

The really profound thing that's noticeable about the Celts bench is the lack of proven ability to score at the NBA level.  Once upon a time Jeff Teague could create a decent shot at the NBA level, but that day is clearly well in the past.

Right now the Celts would be vastly improved if they had Jordan Crawford, Evan Turner, and Jared Sullinger circa 2014-2015 on this bench.  Tells you a lot.

everyone is blaming Tatum and Brown. but they are putting up 26ppg each pretty much. we are getting no production from anyone else.

Ainge sat there hoarding his low first rounders like gold instead of cashing them in for veterans who could help them win and score. And now here we are with besides prichard a bunch of mediocre young guys.

Without Smart we are basically trash.

Certainly the worst of any playoff team.

There maybe a bottom 5 team that is comparable or worse.

Detroit has Josh Jackson and Dennis Smith Jr and Mykhailiuk.

Minnesota has  Reid and Hernangomez who are decent off the bench.

Those are the two worst teams in the NBA and they have better players coming off their bench than the C’s do.

Ugh, you know what team had a better bench?

The 2014 Celtics

Jerryd Bayless
Courtney Lee
Gerald Wallace
Kelly Olynyk
Kris Humphries

Scary thought.

Those benches would still be really bad, because they're comprised entirely of young unproven players who are still learning how to succeed at the NBA level.  But yeah, I agree.

I don't know other teams rosters very well, so I can't say it is the worst in the nba.
I can say it is bad though.  It may be one of the worst benches we have had in a while.

I was wondering if how our current bench stacks up against I thought was bad from the big3 era of KG,PP,RA
in 2009.  I thought the cupboards were empty in 2009.  I thought that bench was terrible.  But our bench isn't even close to that group.

current bench - PP, Semi, Timelord, Nesmith, GWill

2009 playoff run - Eddie House, Scal, Powe, Marbury, Mikki Moore, Tony Allen

Pho mentioned the 2014 bench, I thought those guys were ok.  Most of them just didn't want to be here.  But there were decent players.

That was kind of my point.  That team was assembled almost by accident.  Just a bunch of dudes who were random flotsam in trades.  In some ways it's an unfair comparison.  That team was bad because it lacked anybody better than the 4th or 5th starter on a good team, not because of a lack of NBA talent.

But to think that the team Danny didn't really put together in a purposeful way had a notably better bench than the current team is ... a trip.

True, but I would take Bey and Jackson, Prince and Allen, or Reid and Culver( OR Henangomez) over anyone on the C’s bench. Two solid bench players would make a huge difference.

Here's a list of guys who signed for the same or less than Jeff Teague this off-season who would definitely help the Celts right now:

Wayne Ellington

Reggie Jackson

Nicolas Batum

Jeff Green

Raul Neto

Tyler Johnson

Langston Galloway

Kent Bazemore

Torrey Craig

Some of those guys took less money to play on really good teams, but the Celts were just coming off a trip to the ECF with two rising stars (plus Kemba).  They had just lost Hayward and ostensibly had playing time to offer.

Why was Jeff Teague the best they could do?

Presumably they could have divided the MLE among a few guys instead of using it on Tristan Thompson and offered ~$3 million a year.

Kinda feels like if Ainge had dumped all of the young guys on the bench for future second rounders or cash considerations and simply filled out the bench with veteran minimum type deals, the bench would be better than what they've got now.

I'm going to say no. No because it seems every 6th or so games played even the team's worst bench players has a good game. There are some guys on other teams that don't ever shine. Problem is its a terrible group top to bottom with consistency starters included.

Don't know if it's BS, or this Covid season but no one is dependable on this team
