It’s interesting both Gorman and Wyc made radio appearances today. I wonder if the organization can sense fans are ready to turn on the team.

Quote
Keith Smith @KeithSmithNBA. 20m
Celtics Governor Wyc Grousbeck says that Boston is not contenders: "You can't say you're contenders if your record is under .500."

Quote
Tom Westerholm @Tom_NBA. 15m
On 98.5, Wyc Grousbeck says he's very happy with Brad Stevens. He's very happy with how players have developed under Brad.

Quote
Tom Westerholm @Tom_NBA. 12m
Wyc says the Celtics' best players are keepers and "we're going to keep them."

Wyc on 98.5: "We had hoped Kyrie would stay forever and lead us all the way. ... That change touched off a lot of stuff."

Quote
Keith Smith @KeithSmithNBA 1m.
A couple more things from Grousbeck:

-Believes team has the makings of something good

-Team will consider using part of TPE this season, but may be best to use in offseason

-Kyrie leaving "touched off a lot of stuff"

-Team won't tank "That's not us."

Exactly what I predicted he would say:

“It’s frustrating but trust the process, we’re not going to make any rash moves, we have all the pieces in play, Brad is amazing, etc.”

I understand where it’s coming from logically but it’s damage control. In fact what I took from this is that they’re going to remain pat at the deadline and are preemptively preparing for fan backlash.

In short, don’t expect Wyc to spend any more money on the team this season.

Why is he talking about Kyrie ? Since him leaving we made a return to ECF . Is he saying how they will build on that ECF last year?

I just saw the quotes on Twitter (gotta finish up a little work) but my guess is the people interviewing him brought it up.

I agree with Wyc on potentially using part of the TPE but saving the rest for the off season. It is clear we will re-set the repeater tax this season and gear up for next year.

Brooklyn had to take last year off while Durant, which lead to a miserable year for Kyrie and their young pieces and look at them now. Stay the course and prepare to attack in 2022 and every year thereafter.

I knew not using the TPE until after the season was done would happen. Just typical of this management
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

In Wyc's defense: they've shown absolutely nothing to justify him spending a lot more money this year.

There will be another excuse next year. I can see feel it.

Something like - Kemba has looked promising in 1 of the playoff games we played , despite being swept... we decided to give this group another go at it and not disrupt the “continuity” that Brad has instilled . On top of that every team that we talked to wanted multiple first round picks plus young promising player for their expiring vets.
It will be along these lines lol

What part is he wrong about? We have arguably the best under-25 tandem in the league. Brad is one of the most respected coaches in the league. Danny doesn't panic, and now isn't the time to start.

Why use the TPE this season to at best maybe advance another round in the playoffs? Save it for the summer when you can get a true star who can run alongside Tatum and Brown for years to come.

The bottom line is people are overreacting to a bad stretch when we are still in significantly better shape moving forward than the likes of Atlanta, New Orleans, and maybe even Dallas. We are just being penalized for our success over the last few seasons.

So should we expect to take advantage of the sellers market and sell high on Theis and Semi? Let’s recover the second rounders we coughed for the TPE .. hey wyc Charlotte needs a center and defenders lol

Next year’s Wyc:  “We are operating under financial constraints that make using the TPE impossible”.

nothing really new divulged but the commentary on Kyrie does suggest that getting him and keeping him was the big plan to put us into contention.  With him, I think their thought was Al and Hayward would stay and the J's continue to develop and the team is a contender last year, this year and probably another few years before having to retool.

There’s always an excuse. Always some line about “it not being the right time” and “there wasn’t anyone we wanted”. Every single time. Getting pretty sick of it
