Signing kemba was PR move by danny. It was really a dumb move. I look at kemba as essentially IT.

So after all that we ended up right where we were, it's just so epicly bad gm'ing no matter how you slice it.

Danny painted this team into a corner, with no way out. May as well trade brown and tatum now before they get some whack injury and then they're umoveable.

100% this. Danny should have been patient. Everyone knew the Jay’s were close. Kyrie 3, Danny 0.

Now we’re cap strapped with a PG that doesn’t fit in on offense and is a defensive liability. Imagine our bench with $35 million of vet talent.

Yup, I have. Out Kemba and a 1st and in Horford and George Hill. There’s your $35M in Vet talent. TPE and a 1st for Thad Young. Would completely transform the team.
yup, $35 mill in vet talent that won't make us any better than we are now.

would love Thad but not sure Chicago would give him up right now

Start Smart over Kemba when he’s back. And let him be a true PG! Don’t let the J’s hog the ball.

Smart is not perfect for that role but it will have to do for now.

Horford is playing just as well as he did when he was on the C’s and George Hill is a good player. Al would immediately be the best big on the team and Hill would give the C’s depth at the PG and SG position. Team would definitely be better.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It's not just Kemba.  Tatum and JB stop the offense.  All three do.  The C's are at their best when they are moving the ball and Tatum and Brown  make their moves off a pass versus dribble, dribble, crossover, dribble, dribble then drive.  The D is just waiting for them.  They are so good that they can still get their shots but everyone is just standing around watching them  This is the basketball they were playing when Kyrie was here.  The C's have the talent close to the Jazz.  Watch them play.  thats how you win in the NBA today.  I know Nesmith is a rookie but he's still a good shooter.  There were so many times he was open in the 1st half and none of the three looked his way.  Just terrible individual basketball.

I agree with this and honestly don't even think Kemba is as much to blame (or Brown, really). If Kemba can ever just start hitting his open jumpers at an average rate, then I will be a lot more optimistic about him. We all saw how he performed in the 4th last night; he was on pace for another putrid performance and then he lit it up in the 4th and we almost won the game.

Tatum is absurdly talented and I have no desire to trade him, but if you combine his talent with Kemba's energy, you would have an incredible player. I am not sure if Tatum is still feeling the effects of Covid or if he just doesn't care since the Cs aren't true contenders, but his game absolutely blows right now. Of course he will still get his stats because he is that good, but his effect on winning just isn't there right now.

have you noticed yet that only you and one other person (who's constantly posting 'trade for Al' threads) are the only ones really saying that?

I like Al and appreciate what he did here but he's not what he was when he was here.  if he was, I'd be onboard with getting him back

Others have agreed that Al would be a better fit over Kemba at this point. He is playing as well as he did while on the C’s. Plus, he has a better contract than Kemba does. Numbers don’t lie.

Anymore?  Kemba never really fit with Tatum and Brown.  obviously the team had a nice season last year, but Kemba was never the right player to put around those two if you were trying to win championships.  Not a good enough defender, play maker, or 3 point shooter.

for the bolded part really?  I think Utah's roster is way more balanced and better than ours.  I don't think it is even close.

I agree with this 100%.  I like Kemba, he was a great pull a rabbit out of your hat option when things bombed out.  But I don't think he fits with the J's at all either.  I like Smart as our point guard more than Kemba.  I like PP as a point guard more than Kemba.  Maybe I like Kemba off the bench as a combo scoring guard more, but you don't sign max players to come off the bench.  It is a problem.

When we signed Kemba, Jayson and Jaylen were coming off season scoring averages of 15.7 and 13, respectively. Hayward also had just averaged a cool 11.5 and Kyrie/Al were bolting town. I am not saying Kemba is necessarily the best fit moving forward, but, at the time, it was pretty obvious we needed an elite scorer and Kemba was knocking on our door. Him coming here also helped disprove the rubbish argument that the Cs reputation was in the toilet due to doing IT 'dirty.' We were in a bad place coming off of 18-19 and I will go to my grave thinking that Kemba signing here was an incredible move by Ainge.

We also shouldn't be writing this team's eulogy quite yet (not that I believe we are 'true' contenders). We were literally just in the ECF a few months ago. I am not sure if we'll ever see the starting 5 that got us there, but we know that particular starting unit was at least able to muster some success.

How about this trade idea

Kemba and two 2nds for Kevin Love??
Makes zero sense for either. Cleveland’s two best young players are small guards, so they say no. Kevin Love is injured and has been worse than Kemba this year, so we say no, especially if we’re giving up picks for no reason.

Tatum was in his 2nd year and only had 13.1 shots.  It should have been obvious he was going to quickly become a #1 option and that if Boston was ever going to win, it would be because of Tatum reaching his full potential.  Any move that didn't maximize Tatum's window was a poor one.

I'd just like to point out that in the back to back games where Kemba sits out, we've been absolutely putrid. Kemba fitting in or not is not the problem.

Then the problem is Brad, as well as the two leaders of this team, and the rest of this miserable roster.
