After Celts lose to Mavs

Quote
"I just don't see Kemba fitting in no more,"
Perkins said on Celtics Postgame Live. "Like, to me, the Celtics look better without him on the floor. I mean, I'm sorry I'm being hard on Kemba and a little critical, but it's just -- he's not filling that void right now on the offensive end and stepping up when it matters the most and on the defensive end he still is a liability."

Quote
"Right now, if we're looking at this Celtics team the way it's currently constructed and we think that this is a team that could possibly win this year's Eastern Conference and make it to the Finals, we're all fooling ourselves," Perkins said. "I don't know if this Celtics team could make it out of the first round, to be honest, and that's scary."

I would pay money to never have to see Kendrick Perkins talk ever again.

I think I agree with him here.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Dont mind Perk

I would do this for Scal

Celts are in trouble. Started out 8-3. Derailed due to covid. Walker returned and now the team is on a down ward spiral

How about this trade idea

Kemba and two 2nds for Kevin Love??

I'm beginning to think it could be very likely we see Kemba dealt at the deadline in a move to acquire a player even if they have a bad contract. Like Kevin Love as you say, or add more picks/players to the trade to acquire Porzingis if DAL really wants to trade him. Or another guy who sort of fits the mold (somewhat injury prone, a risk, big contract).

A move like that could potentially fill a need elsewhere, give more minutes to our other guards (Nesmith, Smart, Pritchard), and we'd still have the TPE since Kemba and his contract are going out.

For a while we were wondering if they'd make a move to upgrade the team using the TPE at the deadline, but it could be they decide to trade Kemba to get back another bad contract (but maybe the player they get can actually help too and isn't a total scrub).

It's not just Kemba.  Tatum and JB stop the offense.  All three do.  The C's are at their best when they are moving the ball and Tatum and Brown  make their moves off a pass versus dribble, dribble, crossover, dribble, dribble then drive.  The D is just waiting for them.  They are so good that they can still get their shots but everyone is just standing around watching them  This is the basketball they were playing when Kyrie was here.  The C's have the talent close to the Jazz.  Watch them play.  thats how you win in the NBA today.  I know Nesmith is a rookie but he's still a good shooter.  There were so many times he was open in the 1st half and none of the three looked his way.  Just terrible individual basketball.

Signing kemba was PR move by danny. It was really a dumb move. I look at kemba as essentially IT.

So after all that we ended up right where we were, it's just so epicly bad gm'ing no matter how you slice it.

Danny painted this team into a corner, with no way out. May as well trade brown and tatum now before they get some whack injury and then they're umoveable.

yeah, the best ball movement of the night was when Jaylen and Jayson were sitting out at the same time, and Kemba and Pritchard were in back court together.  It was beautiful.  Don't know what the plus/minus was during that stint, but don't care.  I wish Brad would do that more often. Maybe give Jaylen and Jayson message.

I go back and forth about Kemba. I really want him to figure it out, get better, and be a part of this team.  Even if we traded him, now would be the absolute worst time, his value is low.  I'd play out the season and see how he looks then.

100% this. Danny should have been patient. Everyone knew the Jay’s were close. Kyrie 3, Danny 0.

Now we’re cap strapped with a PG that doesn’t fit in on offense and is a defensive liability. Imagine our bench with $35 million of vet talent.

His value could definitely get worse. Without question.

Yeah, they definitely don’t have the same level of talent as the Jazz. After Brown and Tatum our talent level falls off a Cliff. Jazz have 9 very good players. It’s not even close.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yup, I have. Out Kemba and a 1st and in Horford and George Hill. There’s your $35M in Vet talent. TPE and a 1st for Thad Young. Would completely transform the team.

I was surprised when he made that statement and at this point I think it may be something to consider.

team isn't close to being a contender and it no longer has a number of assets with which to make deals to bring in more talent.  it's either stand pat and hope for the best OR trade what assets we do have for marginal improvement or a full reset.

I'm against a full reset (moving Kemba, Tatum, Brown) but I'm not seeing how standing pat will get us to a title.  At best, Tatum and Brown both become all-NBA players, Smart stops making as many boneheaded plays. Timelord/Pritchard/Nesmith/Romeo all develop into starter-level talent and GWill figures it out and gets back to at least the player he was at the end of last season instead of what we have now.   As optimistic as I am, I don't see that quite happening.

That leaves moving some assets for other pieces to either marginally improve or acquire different assets of approximately equal value.  I think that leaves Kemba as the likely asset to be moved to either bring in a player that plays a different position with similar consistency issues or who's more consistent but on a worse contract or move him to gain draft capital and some other piece.
