Houston had him on a 1 year deal for about $2.3M and their starting center is out with an injury for a couple more weeks. They still cut him.
that's not a good look for him. have to question if he was cut because he's just that bad at this point or if he's that much of a headache they can't deal with him even though they could use him at this point.
This part of it does not really worry me. Houston is in a total rebuild mode and I am sure DeMarcus Cousins is not part of their future plan, no matter how well he plays. And I totally understand that a vet like Cousins doesn't really want to be on a team like Houston, and certainly not as a back up. This is today's NBA. It is no big deal for a player to be open about wanting to be traded or in this case, released.
My concern with Cousins is that I fear he thinks he is better than he really is. He probably isn't good enough anymore to be a starting big on a contending team, but he may think he is. I guess even being a bench player on a contending team is better for him than being a bench player on the Rockets.
In the case of the Celtics, our bigs are so mediocre, he may well be able to start for us. He might pair well with Theis. But he would still just be another mediocre big to add to the other mediocre bigs we already have. But adding another mediocre big, even one with a little more offensive potential, does not really move the needle.
