I remember Tatum and Brown elevating their games in the playoffs in 3 of the last four playoffs carrying us to the semifinals.  I’d like to add to the team to see them have a chance to do it again and hopefully go further.

Agree. Another solid player could make a difference. A significant player could make a big difference. Thin market for a buyer though.

A “solid player” such as a Barnes or Collins? Sorry, but those guys are not getting you past the Nets.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think they could give us a fighting chance.  As a Celtics fan, I’d be happy with that opportunity even if we aren’t the favorites.

Whose your team?

As a Celtics fan, I want them to win a championship, not just a playoff series. Boston was full strength tonight and they still couldn’t beat a Nets team that was missing their best player. Luckily Lebron, KD, and Harden are in their 30’s, while Brown and Tatum are still in their early 20’s. Celtics have a solid young core with Tatum, Brown, Smart, Pritchard and Timelord. I think Danny knows that Boston has to play the long game at this point.

No Langford tonight, but he wouldn't have made an ounce of a difference anyway.

They were full strength, but out of sorts.  They’re out of sync.  They can get it together and do better.  Brown is not going to keep playing so poorly.

I don’t want them to add an older guy at the end of his contract.  Barnes, A Gordon, and Vuc will all take a lot of assets, but are signed for beyond this year.  If it doesn’t work out, they can still be traded later.  Ainge can be careful while giving this season’s team a better chance.

The long game?

So they peak when, two years from now? Three?

Which means you're ready to contend when Jaylen has like a year left on his deal.

There probably isn't a deal in the next few years that puts the Celts a lot closer to contention. It'll come as a result of Tatum and Jaylen being awesome, or it won't.

the long game started in 2013 ... so the long game is exactly what its name implies - long lol.
A lot of fans blindly believe that there will be that "bright" future when the celtics will be dominant with Tatum and Brown. ...
But comparing them to Durant and Harden at their 4-5th years it is not even close and we all know what the OKC won despite playing the long game.

17/18-18/19 was supposed to be our time, and that ship has sailed.  PhoSita put it best - it's entirely down to whether or not the Js will become great enough to lead us to true contention.

It’s not anyone’s time.
It’s a time of superteams, superstars joining forces is the only thing that works now. Depressing time for NBA fans.

I don't get the "this trade will not get us past this team so don't do it" mentality.

If a move makes the team better now and in the future, do it.   If it gives the team a better piece in terms of future trade value for when that better piece is available, do it.   As long as it doesn't put the team in the Tax, do it.

If it is a rental that costs to many future assets or put them in the tax, don't do it.

Tough night for the pro Kemba crowd.

I do think he will continue to play better heading into the playoffs as he continues to gain rhythm but no doubt that Kyrie had him shook last night. There was that sequence last night where Kyrie scored easily, Kemba rushed a badly Airballed a 3 point attempt, and Kyrie went down and buried a difficult 3 in just about the same spot Kemba missed from.

Definitely some things to build upon but Round 1 of this matchup was a 10-8 for Kyrie.

On the contrary, the depressing thing is that most fans really like it.

It won't ever be the time if DA doesn't make any good moves. He will probably be downgrading talent again this offseason.

What move though? The Celts have very little room to work with under the tax. If they add a big name it basically means using picks to dump Kemba (picks you would need to trade for the big name) or dumping Marcus Smart (counter productive in a major way).

The Celts are kinda stuck hoping that Tatum and Brown will continue to get better while also hoping Kemba is going to be able to give them good production more often than not.
