I think the Celtics need more of a sure thing right now.
Why? Let's face it, we aren't legit contenders this season. Brown and Tatum are locked up for 4 and 5 years respectively. Now is the time to take risks on promising young players.

You want a high risk, high reward target? Trade Brown on draft night for Cade Cunningham + filler(s) or cap relief.
Not sure whether such a deal will be on the table. Obviously, it would be a massive risk on our part. Personally speaking, I'm very high on Cunningham. He can put the ball on the floor and create his own shot. He can create shots for his teammates. He can shoot the 3. He can defend multiple positions. He can play on or off the ball. He can do it all.
I'm ready to face some serious hate for this post.
"Filler"? Hmmm
OK, how about with Detroit for Jerami Grant and their Pick (assuming it is positioned to get who you want) for Brown and our pick. We get our PF, they get star. We get lottery pick.
This feels fair in value, maybe, but I am not sure Detroit does it.
Cunningham + Jerami Grant for Brown + Celtics 2021 first? I'd do it in a heartbeat! Don't think the Pistons would do it though.
The team I had in mind is the Wizards. They already got 2 win-now stars in Beal and Westbrook. If they strike lucky in the lottery, it's possible they'd be willing to swap their pick for a 3rd win-now star in Brown.
@gouki
I'd trade an all-star on a value contract for a Luka lite/Grant Hill hybrid under team control for 8-9 seasons. As much as I like Brown, imo Cunningham will become a way better player. He's a 6'8", unselfish ball handler who thrives in the half court. Brown has made huge leaps as a half-court player, but he's at his best when playing in the open court. Rule of thumb is that the pace of the game slows down come playoff time. Always gimme an elite half-court talent over an elite open-court talent.
Yeah, everyone would do that trade. But there's absolutely no guarantee he'll be this elite player. I've fallen for the trap of big combo guard with half-court skills twice now with Evan Turner and Markelle Fultz. So no, I'd rather not give up an All-Star (whose play routinely improves in the playoffs...) for a gamble. There's no guarantees in the draft
