14 year, 340 million dollar contract for Tatis, Jr. from Padres

Yep, though because he is only about to start year 3, they would have been paying him peanuts for the next 5 years (it takes 7 years to hit free agency).  So the Padres are paying him a lot more over the next 5 years than they otherwise would have, which is also why Tatis would agree to a contract like that.  Way more money sooner which obviously has way more value long term.

If his career goes as expected, this will be a very good deal for the Padres. And I'm glad they locked up a good player for once.
