Going to throw my hat in the ring with two deals that I would love to see us make. I've been pushing for these guys in a few threads for months now, but I think it is both the right time, and that I've come up with appropriate trade packages.

Firstly: https://tradenba.com/trades/0sPcpSnCg

Boston trades: Romeo Langford, Tristan Thompson, 2022 top 8 protected 1st

Memphis trades: Jonas Valanciunas

Why for Boston: Boston get a true hierarchy to their big man rotation: JV -> Theis -> RWill. Valanciunas is a walking double-double who gives us that Baynes-like physicality we so desperately miss. Losing Langford obviously hurts, given we didn't get to see too much, but I think JV is worth it for the 18 months of value we'd have there.

Why for Memphis: JV doesn't really fit Memphis' plans. He's too good to be kept out of the rotation, but not really a fit for their age profile. They also have Dieng about to hit free agency, which will free up minutes for their 3 good young bigs (JJJ, Clarke & Tillman). Freeing up money and getting a wing prospect + a pick would appeal to them.

Secondly: https://tradenba.com/trades/vYWGtrzw9

Boston trades: Carsen Edwards, 2021 OKC 2nd rounder

Detroit trades: Wayne Ellington

Why for Boston: Upgrades the bench with a legit shooter who has been around the league for a dogs age. He knows how to get open and what his role is.

Why for Detroit: Now (especially given Blake's departure from the team) Detroit are well and truly in the sellers market. Selling an expiring veteran for a prospect and stronger 2nd round pick is as good as they'll get for Ellington.

This would leave Boston with a pretty awesome team:

Kemba Walker - Payton Pritchard - Jeff Teague
Marcus Smart - Wayne Ellington - Javonte Green
Jaylen Brown - Semi Ojeleye - Aaron Nesmith
Jayson Tatum - Grant Williams - Daniel Theis
Jonas Valanciunas - Daniel Theis - Robert Williams

We'd still have the TPE to throw at a bench forward (maybe try and swindle Thad Young & Satoransky for picks + TPE?), but those two moves would have us in good stead I reckon. Maybe if Blake gets bought out he'd be a good veteran big for the bench at the VetMin. Would give us some serious playmaking from the high-post and allow the surrounding shooters (PP, Ellington and Semi) to create mayhem on the perimeter. I think this would change our defensive identity, give us an interior presence, boost our bench shooting and add a big who lifts his game in the playoffs.

What do people think?
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I think we still need a power forward.

Not sure Valanciunas would start over Theis. Theis would do more to facilitate both the offense and defense with his superior perimeter D & quickness combined with his perimeter game on offense. Valanciunas would be a good change of pace center off the bench.

The deal might be enough for Memphis. Equivalent to 2 firsts for Valanciunas. That is a good return for him if they want to move him.

I believe both ideas are realistic. That said, I don't like either one of them. :P

Ellington is a role player. No point waisting a future pick for a role player. I mean, it's not like he'd move the needle for us. We've lost 3 all-star caliber players in 2 seasons (Kyrie, Horford, Hayward). Hate to say it, but we aren't a legit contending team.

I'm with Who regarding Valanciunas. He'd be a bad fit in our defensive system. The C's are built around two switchable (s)wings in Tatum and Brown. We wanna maximize their effectiveness on both sides of the ball, hence we run a switch-heavy defensive scheme. This means we need to start a switchable Center. Valanciunas ain't got the lateral quicks to switch ball screens on the perimeter.

^^^this. I'd honestly look at trading for Horford, his contract isn't as bad as it looks due to his final year being partially guaranteed.
