He's looked pretty out of shape all year, and given his injury history it was only a matter of time before something flared up. Him being injury-prone + a short turnaround from playing Finals to the season being back seems to be the cause
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Where there is a calf strain, there is usually an Achilles problem.  It's one of the reasons I'm concerned about Smart!

I must have pulled/strained my calf muscles playing hoops nearly 100 times over the years, but never had an achilles problem. So there!!

hooray for the flipping bionic man!  the comment did say usually, not always, not never, but usually (commonly, sometimes, normally, generally, occasionally all synonyms of usually).  that said, i did pay attention in my anatomy and physiology classes:

"The Gastrocnemius and Soleus muscles basically make up the calf. The fascia of these muscles eventually forms the Achilles tendon. Therefore, if the calf is tight, then the Achilles is going to be tight too. A 'problem with one is a problem with both."

Also note I didn't Achilles rupture or even injury, I said problem is exactly what this quote states.
"There's sharks and minnows in this world. If you don't know which you are, you ain't a shark."
