I'm ready to move on from Timelord. In a vacuum, he's a starting-caliber rim protector. Unfortunately, he ain't a good fit in our system. Here's my reasoning:

The C's are built around 2 switchable wings in Tatum and Brown. We want to maximize their effectiveness on both sides of the ball, hence we run a switch-heavy defensive scheme. The way our PnR defense works, Theis/Thompson meet the opposing ball handler at the level of dribble hand off and deny penetration. Timelord ain't got the lateral quicks to switch ball screens on the perimeter. It seems like CBS can hide 1 non-switchable defender (Kemba). We cannot hide 2 non-switchable defenders and still run a switch-heavy defensive scheme. Imo, this is the reason Theis/Thompson start over Timelord.

How about swapping bigs with the Magic?

Feel free to add pick(s).

Bamba has been very effective in limited minutes thus far this season. Unlike Timelord, he can switch ball screens on the perimeter. I reckon he'd be a nice fit in our system. I'm still hopeful he can become a defensive monster under CBS.

Birch has been a binkie of mine since he left Greece to sign for the Magic (I live in Greece). He strongly reminds me of Theis. Birch is about an inch taller and half a year younger. Unfortunately, he ain't got 3pt range. Other than that, I would argue their games are almost identical.

Would you guys pull the trigger? Do you think the Magic would be interested in this deal? I'd be happy to throw in Edwards as well if they want him. It would have to be 2 different transactions though.

I bet the Magic would rather have Theis over Thompson. Salary-wise, it would still be a valid trade.

We send out the two best players in that trade. Not good.

Don't view it as a downgrade. Imo, Bamba has a higher upside than Timelord, plus he's a better fit in our system. Birch is a great perimeter defender. He'd be an ideal fit for us. Thompson is overpaid.

Bamba's advanced stats are awesome this season.

BPM +9.7! (3rd best in the league)
WS/48 .254! (10th best in the league)
BLK% 9.1! (11th best in the league)
TS% 67.5
TRB% 24.9 (9th best in the league)
Total RAPTOR +4.7

Obviously, we have a very small sample size. That said, I was always high on Bamba. I'm still hopeful he can become a dominant defensive Center. Unfortunately for him, the Magic got Vucevic at Center.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Was hoping it was a Vucevic for Thompson/TPE trade. Unfortunately it wasn’t  :(

It's two players that don't even get on the court for a starter and 1st big off the bench.
