Detroit are pretty obviously in a rebuilding mode, given the failure of their acquisitions to make them anything better than the 14th seed.

So my thinking would be to try and poach Wayne Ellington from them on the cheap. He's having a career year, but even since 2014-15 to now, he's averaged 10/2/1 shooting 38% from 3 on over 5 attempts per game. Obviously he's scorching hot this year, but he's shown to be a near-40% shooter on 7 3s a game in the past. I'd much prefer him to JJ Redick at this stage, who struggles to get open looks, struggles to hit anything and plays worse defence than Ellington.

Ellington knows his role, and that is to step onto the floor and sling threes. Not much else.

He can't be traded for a month (March 3rd) because of his recently signed restriction, but what do people think it would take? A prospect (Langford) and a 2nd, or more? Maybe a protected first and a lower-end prospect (Carsen)?

In an ideal world I'd also be keen on Grant, but if Detroit flip him they'll be trying to sell high.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Imo, Romeo for Ellington would be a massive overpay.

Wouldn't be against swapping Romeo + Edwards for Saddiq Bey. That said, if Danny were high on Bey, I guess he would have drafted him over Nesmith at #14.

Getting an undersized guard who isn't really much of a handler or passer doesn't seem like a super high priority to me.  I'm sure he would help, but what the Celts really need is bigger guys who can shoot (ie an upgrade on Grant / Semi who can allow them to avoid playing multiple non-shooting bigs).
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I'd prefer Ellington to Redick at this stage also.  I'd happily get rid of Edwards but I'm not sure if I'd want to give up Langford unless there was another big trade and we needed Ellington to complete the team for a run at the title.

Probably, I just don't rate Romeo because he's incredibly injury-prone. Best ability is availability!

Would swap Romeo for Bey in a heartbeat. Not sure Romeo has any external value though, so him as a trade piece will always be lopsided against us I reckon

Jerami Grant ..? Can nab them both in the same deal ;)

I can’t see Romeo bringing more than a second rounder at this moment. But his trade value can change dramatically if he plays 20 consistent games in a row with decent minutes. He could have definitely had all the minutes he wants but he is not available. It suks

My idea ATM is Garrett Temple and Thaddeus Young from CHI

I’d be similarly down with that, those two are solid vets.

Another duo I would be super happy with is Aaron Gordon and Terrence Ross, but those guys are pretty high-level players with bigger contracts

Ellington is a vet min guy on a one year deal. All you need to do, if you want him, is offer Edwards, a 2nd round pick and some cash and that will probably work.

Please tell Danny this! I think he’d greatly help the bench

Agree we need players who can feed the ball to the Jays. This will be a critical part in taking the next step. I do want more shooters, big and small. But being a shooter isn't enough, we need better ball movement. The ball sticks too much as is. All the shooters in the world won't help if they're not receiving the ball in good position.

Hopefully Payton Pritchard is part of the answer. But yeah, a versatile shooting big would be nice too.

I'd much rather have Rose from Detroit.  Heck, I'd probably take Wright before Ellington even with his much larger contract.  Ellington just doesn't do anything for me.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I’d want Josh Jackson.
