https://theathletic.com/2347020/2021/01/26/nba-trade-rumors-news-pelicans-lonzo-ball/

The New Orleans Pelicans have received trade calls on the availability of Lonzo Ball and J.J. Redick with sources telling Shams Charania of The Athletic that they have shown an openness to discuss a trade.

Ball is in his second season with the Pelicans and will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.

Redick is in the second season of a two-year, $26.5 million deal with the Pelicans.

Trading away Ball and Redick would allow the Pelicans to allocate more minutes to Nickel Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis.

Please forgive me. I like Lonzo Ball.

He's no all-star. He might not even be a starter. But I do think he is a good basketball player. The right coach might be able to allow him to use his strengths as a defender and maestro passer.

You don't want the ball in his hands for the pick and roll, but you don't want him to have it in the open court. He is also a very disruptive defender with good size.

I don't really think he fits on the Cs, but I could absolutely see a situation unfolding where the Warriors are able to get him for cheap, and he becomes this perfect guard in their high-IQ ball movement system. If the first few looks don't get any good scoring options, he doesn't have to be the one running of the offense. Give it to Curry.

It's unfortunate that Redick's shooting percentages have fallen off a cliff this year as he might have been a good add on. But, sadly, it appears he is cooked and all washed up.

Regarding Ball, I find his addition to be rather redundant given Smart's presence on the team. I think one horrific shooting, high quality passing, excellent defensive guard on the team is good enough.

It's a bummer that Reddick has sucked so hard this year. He's basically half the player he was last year, and his shooting is at 30%... just terrible. Age might have finally caught up with him, which is fair enough given he's 37 this year. No real interest in him if he's not hitting shots.

Lonzo has been another thorough disappointment this year. He's doing basically everything worse this year except scoring, however that slight scoring jump comes on truly horrible efficiencies - 39% from the field, 29% from 3 (on 7 attempts!) and 58% from the FT line, culminating in an EFG% of 48% (second lowest in his career) and a TS% of 48%. Not sure if last year was a fluke shooting wise, or if this year is. Either way, not sure we have room for him

I'd take Lonzo for a couple of seconds and Green.

Carsen Edwards, funnily, has been much better than JJ Reddick this year at basically everything

I'd even give up one of our late 1st for Lonzo if we had a good chance of resigning him in the off season.

Lonzo will get a rich offer next year. I would say only trade for him if he is free. One second rounder is my max plus Carsen

I have no interest in Ball at $11M.  I don't see him filling a single need.

Regarding Reddick and his 2 seasons at $13M per, I would rather have Thad Young.

A good wing defender and passer for the second unit.

Redick would be useful. I would be happy with him with the TPE as a short term addition if no long term addition are available. My first priority would be to use it to get a long term piece though. Even if it is a lesser player.

I couldn't care less about Redick's shooting numbers. Shooters do not forget how to shoot. Old players can struggle to get open for shots but they do not forget how to shoot once they are open. So he'll do just fine here where he has guys creating open shots from 3 for him.

Redick would provide us with some much needed depth at SG.

Pels should have traded Redick in off season; probably could have gotten a protected first round pick. Not now.

While they may not forget, the list of smallish guards who's shooting percentages plummeted once they aged and their legs weakened, causing their overall game to fall off a cliff, is ridiculously long. Redick sure seems to be yet another causality of age winning out.
