If Dipo's desire to go to Miami is real, then my offer isn't going to be much beyond a 1st and a spare part, at most Theis, who they likely would have little interest in.

Also replace Romeo and Nesmith (assuming they go to rockets) salaries with min deal(s). If we don’t make the finals I think the max Oladipo is getting is a Hayward type of deal. So that puts him at ~$30M. This projects to $160M of payroll / luxury tax bill ~ $60M.
Wyc can afford that.
Of course  Oladipo will have delivered in the playoffs which is a big uncertainty at this point of his career.

This is assuming we trade Theis + Edwards + picks to the Rockets and we absorb Dipo's salary via the TPE. That was the original idea.

Plenty of teams will have max cap space this summer. All it takes is one team to offer Dipo the max. He will be 29 years old this summer.

While I would be happy with John Collins, Tatum is extremely proficient up front.

That team probably has a lifespan of half a season till this summer. The luxury tax would explode through the roof next season.

Assuming we use the TPE on Dipo, the C's would have 4 max/close-to-max contracts next season + Smart + Thompson + the rest of our players. I'm too lazy to put down the numbers, but I'm pretty sure we'd end up with one of the most expensive teams in NBA history. Don't think Wyc would be willing to pay that big of a tax, especially in the midst of a pandemic.

Imo, the only trade that makes sense on our part would be around Kemba. It would have to be a 3-way cause the Rockets already got Wall. I'd strongly consider it, but I don't think I'd pull the trigger.

Fwiw, the biggest amount ever paid in luxury tax is $61.6 million (by the Thunder in 2018/19).

In this scenario, the Celtics would have to pay an NBA record ~$98 million in luxury tax!

Golden State is at $174 million and Brooklyn is at $163 million this year.

I don’t know man.  Dipo is a very good player, but we would be paying 34 mil a year into his 30s for a player that relies a lot on his athleticism, and it’s compounded we are also paying Kemba the same the amount the next couple years.  Risky for 2 players you question how their game will age from year to year at this point.  I’d rather get Gordon back. Kidding.  We would be better in the near term, but risky contract especially since I don’t think he is max player right now.

We don't have the option to anyway. We are hard capped at the lux tax line because of the Hayward sign and trade and the Thompson signing.

So even if we found a move that seemed doable and worth it to put us over the line, we can't because we're hard capped.

Yep, the luxury tax is set at: $132.6M and the apron is set at: $138.9M. We are allowed to go over the first, but not the second. At this point, however, it seems easy enough and beneficial enough to avoid going over the first.

He is a very good 2 way player and has improved a lot, but he is not worth busting the budget for.
