Harden traded to Nets

With the dust settling on this trade a little bit, I am starting to feel less depressed about it. As a few have already pointed out, Brooklyn might really struggle on the defensive end. So even if you get the personalities to gel, Kyrie to actually want to play, and the team to really buy in on Nash, they are far from a certainty. We will just have to wait and see.

The Celtics in some perverse way are in better shape now than they were at the start of the season. Why? Because Milwaukee and Brooklyn have gutted their future draft capital and shortened their potential windows. For the Bucks, of course they just extended Giannis, but Holiday is already 30 and is a FA after 2021-22. For the Nets, Durant looks like a monster right now but is 32 with a reconstructed achilles and, similarly, can hit free agency after next year.

The Celtics aren't the favorites the Bucks and Nets are at this moment to win this year, but they *could* win a title this year if things shake out right. Meanwhile, two years from now you'll have Tatum and Brown in the middle of their current contracts at ages 26 and 24, respectively. By then, either they'll have added a 3rd stud to pair with those two, or they'll still have draft capital and cap flexibility.

It's hard to think this way because we generally want satisfaction now (which, again, I think you still may get if you're a Celtics fan), but the period that comes next in the East looks especially bright, particularly if the team can sign Tatum and Brown to stay on beyond their current contracts.

TP, I love this take. A rare post that’s both optimistic and (I think) accurate. Of course in 2 years, we could experience the next crop of “destination city” teams assembling star studded squads, but that’s life. For the first time in awhile, I’m thinking that the Celtics are largely building the team the right way with a viable long term vision.

But apparently, Irving has more issues than that, as he’s sat out the last four games without any indication of when he might return.

But according to SNYTV’s Tommy Dee, Irving is “furious” with the organization. And it has nothing to do with the team’s decision to onboard James Harden via a four-team trade, either. Irving reportedly is upset by the Nets’ decision to hire Steve Nash as head coach because he was “not in favor” of it.

Dee also described the relationship between Irving and teammate Kevin Durant as “very distant.”

I agree it will be hard to move him but the same applied to Harden and they were able to move him.  How about Charlotte (Jordan is vulnerable to a bad trade).  Take back Rozier and Zeller plus a couple of future picks.  Jordan will think he can straighten out Kyrie and Kyrie and Hayward get to reunite.  I think the Knicks are also a possibility.

more like 9-10 million for Drummond I believe since Boston is over 19 million below the hard cap line and Drummond makes just under 29 million. So would require moving some players.  Theis, Semi, Green, Edwards is right around what it would take, but it also means Boston can't add anyone else without making another salary reducing move. 

In other words, Drummond would be really hard to acquire this year.

Now JaVale McGee we could probably do without much issue and I suspect the Cavs would move on from him without requiring much in return.
