Can't say I would have said yes.

Awesome

That is pretty amazing.

Side note: Mark Henry used to be able to dunk.

I wouldn't do that deal.

Lowe said we never offered Brown, so there was never any realistic deal to be had with us. Also said POR balked at a package for McCollum and picks which is a lesser deal than JB+MS+picks.

depends on how many picks and when they are.

I've been pretty firm that I would have done Brown, Smart, and a pick or two (like 21 and 23) as I think that would have elevated Boston into legit contender status, though the last week or so of Harden has given me a bit more pause on that.  At the end of the day, I want to win a title and I just don't think this team has any sort of realistic shot at doing that.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

With the dust settling on this trade a little bit, I am starting to feel less depressed about it. As a few have already pointed out, Brooklyn might really struggle on the defensive end. So even if you get the personalities to gel, Kyrie to actually want to play, and the team to really buy in on Nash, they are far from a certainty. We will just have to wait and see.

The Celtics in some perverse way are in better shape now than they were at the start of the season. Why? Because Milwaukee and Brooklyn have gutted their future draft capital and shortened their potential windows. For the Bucks, of course they just extended Giannis, but Holiday is already 30 and is a FA after 2021-22. For the Nets, Durant looks like a monster right now but is 32 with a reconstructed achilles and, similarly, can hit free agency after next year.

The Celtics aren't the favorites the Bucks and Nets are at this moment to win this year, but they *could* win a title this year if things shake out right. Meanwhile, two years from now you'll have Tatum and Brown in the middle of their current contracts at ages 26 and 24, respectively. By then, either they'll have added a 3rd stud to pair with those two, or they'll still have draft capital and cap flexibility.

It's hard to think this way because we generally want satisfaction now (which, again, I think you still may get if you're a Celtics fan), but the period that comes next in the East looks especially bright, particularly if the team can sign Tatum and Brown to stay on beyond their current contracts.

that's an overpay by the C's and defeats the purpose behind acquiring Harden in the first place.

the whole point to acquiring Harden is if you belief he's the guy that gets us over the top (which I don't think he is) then you acquire him to add to Brown and Tatum, not replace one of them.

It seems like the Rockets were pretty specific in who they wanted.  They essentially picked players from 3 teams:

Victor Oladipo (Indiana), Rodions Kurucs (Brooklyn), Dante Exum (Cleveland).

I assume this means they actively passed on Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, and Taurean Prince.  I find this interesting that they liked Oladipo and Exum more than Allen and LeVert.  I can't make any sense out of it.  Especially the Jarrett Allen and Prince for Exum and a not so great 1st round pick.  Seems like CLE won this exchange.  Is Exum any good at all?  He isn't even a starter, right?

Getting Oladipo makes some sense I guess but why not go with the younger players over an expiring, injury risk veteran?

Money. The Rockets owner primarily wanted to shed long term salary and they did. The draft picks are the main return in the trade for them in terms of assets.

Houston intends to rebuild.  Dipo's contract is expiring, and he will most likely be traded to Miami prior to the trade deadline.

I'm not sure Irving is on the Nets past the trade deadline. What about a Irving/Andrew Wiggins swap? It would allow Harden to run the Nets offense, especially since he is so ball dominant. The trade would also form one of the best backcourts in the league with Curry and Irving.

You sure these Brooklyn draft picks are going to get them players that are better than Allen and LeVert?  Sure, the contract time line is different for them, I guess that must be it.  I can't imagine they think Brooklyn is going to be bad anytime soon?

How much longer is Nash their coach?  He's on the clock starting now. If he hasn't been fired by the summer he'll resign.
