What does the Nets depth chart look like now?

What is left to put alongside their big three?

Jordan
Durant
Harris
Harden
Kyrie

With TLC, Jeff Green and Shamet off of the bench.

Look, all bias aside, that’s a really strong starting 5! And the real X factor is Durant. If we take KD out, then that looks like a worse Rockets team than previous years (DJ as Capella, Harris one of the shooters, Kyrie as CP3 or RW).
The defence looks ****ing horrible though. The offence will be mind-boggling, but I'm struggling to see how this Nets team can win slugfests against other elite teams in a 7 game series.

My Lord, that is a terrible defensive team. And they don't have a back up center! Is DJ going to play 40+ minutes a night?

This year, I don't see it happening for the Nets. But with some adjustments in the off-season and getting Dinwiddie back, if the top 3 guys can learn to share, the Nets could be dangerous then.

Who is out there in free agency still?

Dwayne Dedmon would make a lot of sense.  RHJ? Ilyasova?  Napier? IT? Gerald?

They’ve got three slots.  I’d sign Dedmon, RHJ and Napier.

There is also the buyout market too close to the trade deadline.  They might be able to scoop up a helpful piece or 2 from there.

This "could" work or this could fail specaltacularly.

Are we forgetting that Harden is a balloon now and quit on houston (a team who gave him everything he wanted) and PUSHED chris paul and westbrook out the door because his antics? Who refuses to move without the ball or play defense if another player scores?

And Kyrie irving who just has disappeared without telling his team and hates his coach apparently and didn't want to be LeBron's #2 who is now going to be happy being #3?

Good luck.

Hmm, I don’t see it the way you do.

KD and Harris are solid defenders. Jordan is still a good rim defender (although he doesn’t do well out in the perimeter), and Kyrie (as much as we hate him) during his stint as a Celtic wasn’t a sieve on defense. He was average.

Harden’s the only poor defender in that lineup and it has more to do with effort than anything. I don’t think his efforts magically gonna spike but in a playoff game, for 1 possession with the game on the line? I could see him making at least that much effort and being passable on defense.

This trade is not all that surprising.  Something along these lines had been speculated all over the place (albeit in the midst of much other speculation).  I had said earlier that Durant and Harden should be lethal together, almost no matter what you put around them.  I think Durant is about the perfect star to pair with Harden from a personality standpoint.

My main point though is that I think this has been close to final for enough time that Kyrie knew it was coming.  That is why he has quit on the team.  As much as Durant is perfect to pair with Harden, Kyrie and Harden are the polar opposite of a perfect pair.  I predict Kyrie is going to be traded, maybe to the Knicks or how about to Charlotte for Terry Rozier and others (Nets can take back 3-4 players to make up for the loses in the Harden trade).

My understanding is that he has a 15% trade kicker which I doubt he will waive.  He is not going to be happy to stay and play with Harden, and he is not going to be happy to be traded.  He thought it was just going to be him and Durant, best buds.  Now that is gone.  I suspect Kyrie is in a very dark place right now.

Harden hates defense, cause it leads to foul trouble... and then he can't score. Same goes for Cryrie. Defensively they will stink, thats for sure. But if they implode before this gets relevant... well...
I think the Nets won't matter for one of two or even more reasons.

So did the Nets get Harden for a similar price as Milwaukee paid for Jrue Holiday?

How irritated would Giannis / Bucks be at this?

Since Giannis doesn't seem to like Harden... I don't think it is much of an issue.

I know, right? If the Bucks add a couple 1sts to their deal, they're essentially there. And they would have a younger Giannis locked up for a couple of years longer so it matters even less what the those later years look like. Heck, one of the picks HOU took was a MIL pick in 2022.

And to respond to the Scal/Oladipo thing (don't want to make a new post) - if HOU doesn't sign Oladipo to a long-term contract, then this deal was kind-of a bust. Of course they have the picks, but those could all be late 20s. At least locking up Oladipo would give them that young-ish All-Star for years to come. It's hard to land bottom 3 anyway.

I keep wondering if it is really Irving that will get less shots.   The ball is still going to be in either his or Hardens hands at the start of most offensive plays.   I could see the two of them getting into a cook off challenge.

Meanwhile, their best player could see the reduction in shots just because those two don't move the ball enough.

I would expect to see Oladipo traded before the trade deadline.   I would expect a complete rebuild.

So it seems like the next star to find a new home should be Beal.
I am seeing a nightmare scenario in which Morey trades for him.
I can see Philly giving up 3 picks and 4 swaps too... they can also add Maxey, Thybuile and Milton and thus keep Simmons.
