If the bulls aren’t going to resign Markkanen would they be interested in picking up two young guards on longer rookie deals? Markkanen would be a really nice stretch 4 for the Celtics.

I'd wouldn't mind picking up Markkanen but I'd be really surprised if that's all it would take to get him.

Would need to send more, as I imagine another team would easily and quickly beat this package
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Looks like there has already been speculation about Markkanen to the C's.  Maybe this is what generated the idea for the thread?

Interesting. I kind of like the idea of a lineup of:

Thompson
Markkanen
Tatum
Brown
A healthy Walker

I think that Langford and Edwards is unrealistic. Smart would work but it looks as though that we would have to match up the salaries with either an expanded trade or take back filler.

My gut feeling is that Danny would never do this kind of  deal since it's not a complete fleecing. Giving up Smart is a serious move. He is a very useful player but power forward has been a real problem for us. Having a big front line while moving Tatum and Brown down to the 3 and 2 seems like a good move.

I hadn’t seen this trade but I think it’s an overpay.

Agree entirely. I would do your deal in a heartbeat, but would Chicago?

If they were just going to move off of Markkanen they might. Romeo is still a good prospect on a costed controlled deal.

Romeo is a bust and injury prone...no one will touch him . Bulls will laugh at that offer.

The question is if Markkanen is being used wrong and if he'd blossom in a different system.  He looks like he's been regressing.  If he's going to be a 3 point shooter he's got to get his percentage up better than last year's 34%.  If he doesn't we'd have a poor defending Turner, who Ainge doesn't think super highly of.   I think Markkanen could blossom but it would be a bit of a gamble.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The OP's trade sounds about right - maybe add a 2nd rounder or two. Markkanen is expiring and will need to be paid. Perhaps you do Nesmith instead since his value is a bit higher right now and Stevens isn't exactly jumping for joy over the guy.

The trade in the posted article is a joke. Why would we give up 3 cost controlled rotation players (Nesmith, Romeo, Grant) and a 1st, for a decent player on an expiring contract? Unless Danny was like super-high on Markkanen, there is no way he goes all-in like this.

And, no, giving up Smart is not a better alternative.

Kemba for Porter Jr and Lauri makes sense.

We know Bulls were asking about Kemba in the offseason.
I also think that Bulls will eventually shop Zach knowing that he doesnt really contribute to winning and that White is better as an off guard. (Maybe a zach for Aaron Gordon swap? or a zach for Demar Derozan swap?)

Kemba
White
Lavine - traded
Wiliams
WCjr

'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic
