if we can sign Ilyasova for the vet min and cut Edward to make room, I'd do it in a heartbeat

Would that put Celts in the luxury tax?
bringing in a vet min?  I don't believe so.

For all the criticism about Houston's system over the past 4+ years, are we really that different??

Chucking 3s, iso-ball, continuing to chuck away even when it's not falling.

I mean the difference is Morey actually tried to build a roster around Harden that fits that scheme. The C's though don't have enough shooting and don't have the roster to do that scheme. But they just continue reverting to iso-ball for stretches and just shooting a ton of 3s a night. Huh??  ???

And to be clear, people will say I'm overreacting to this preseason game, but this has been the case for 3+ years now. And we've lost key playoff games and playoff series as a result too.

I mean really, 6/42 from behind the arc? That's embarrassing.
Maybe we're preparing for the arrival of the Beard... ;)

Well Tatum or Brown better grow it fast

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Carson edwards plays like a player who would add value to your team by being a 3pt shooting spark plug off the bench, except he doesn’t make shots. Like, ever.

He looks to be the least valuable player on this roster in my eyes. He would make up for his lack of size if he made shots. He just doesn’t ...

Waters is even more valuable

Edwards needs a new scenery

He will keep the bench warm. Then be included in a trade package

Waters looks waaaaaayyyy more valuable. He actually makes plays happen which means he looks playable in certain situations.

Edwards plays his role quite well (tries hard on defense, generates open 3pt looks for himself), except he doesn’t make wide open shots which makes him unplayable, always.

Tonight was a mess.  I’m not concerned about Brown and Tatum being cold.  Teague should hold down the pg spot (along with Smart part time) and Thompson and Theis should hold down the center position.  We’re going to miss Hayward though.  We need another wing who can shoot and be a secondary ball handler.

We need a better power forward. Javonte Green, Grant Williams, and Semi as our rotation at that spot is just not going to cut it.

Starting to doubt we can be serious contender with Jayson Tatum as our best player.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
I know we're taking a "wait and see" approach before trying to use the TPE, but we need a vet wing in a bad way. I thought that before the season started and these two preseason games have made it painfully obvious. It's especially noticeable in those all bench lineups with Jaylen. Tatum has shown he can carry a unit like that for stretches, but it's a grind to score with Jaylen in that situation.

tonight's hot takes:
- another night of "live by the 3, die by the 3" and we were DOA
- Smart still didn't look like a good option as our starting PG.  3 TOs and 3 Assts in 26 minutes.  need much better from a starting PG
- GWill looked like he regressed even further from last season.  need him to turn it around.
- Theis looked bad on offense.  unable to finish anywhere around the rim.  our center getting blocked by their SF by the basket isn't acceptable.
- Timelord still needs work on his team D.  dunks are flashy but needs to get better with his court awareness of where the offensive players are.
- Pritchard had a tough shooting night but he looks like a solid prospect.
- Nesmith looked good on offense and showed hustle -- gives reasonable hope he can put it together on D to be a real contributor.

ready to cut Waters, Edwards, Semi and Green if the C's can line up halfway decent vet min players.

offense and defense were so horrible I have to seriously wonder if we'll even be .500 when we get Kemba and Thompson back.

Whatever happened to the Amile Jefferson signing? At this point I’d rather have him over Edwards. Edwards’ confidence is shot.

That was a brutal game that is probably better forgotten than studied, but I'll give a few notes of positivity.

Tatum and Brown were both trying to distribute more.
Nesmith has some shooter's gravity and demonstrated some good off-ball switching and weakside rotational defense.
Pritchard had several good defensive possessions when he was on an Island and forced a tough shot.
Grant Williams is shooting more threes, which is a piece we need if this team is going to succeed (assuming he can make more of them).

He played ineffectively at the end of the game.

I hope so.  It just stinks that he’s always hurt and not even able to practice.
