Kyrie claims 'pawns' post wasn't about media, walks back remarks on Nash

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving spoke to the media Monday for the first time since being fined $25,000 for refusing to speak with reporters during the club's media week earlier in December.

The All-Star guard touched on several topics during his availability, including a recent social media post in which he stated he doesn't "talk to pawns."

Irving claimed the message wasn't directed toward members of the media.

"It's really just about how I felt about the mistreatment of certain artists when we get to a certain platform of when we make decisions within our lives to have full control and ownership ... We want to perform in a secure and protected space," Irving told reporters, including ESPN's Malika Andrews.

Irving also walked back remarks he made during an October appearance on teammate Kevin Durant's podcast. The 28-year-old said at the time he didn't "really see" Steve Nash as Brooklyn's head coach after the club hired the Hall of Famer for the role a month earlier.

"Steve's been amazing," Irving said. "He kind of commands the respect. I think I've got to take back my comments in terms of the head coach back a few months ago. But it's just like, man, we such a great synergy. Everyone feels like we're coaching one another to be better, so I'm grateful for that."

Nash, for his part, denied any tension with Irving and applauded the two-time All-NBA selection for being a positive presence in the locker room. The first-year bench boss said he's glad to be coaching Irving instead of lining up against him.

"Our relationship's been great, it's never been an issue," Nash said, according to Forbes' Adam Zagoria. "He's been unbelievable in camp, he's been a leader. It's been unbelievable watching him play every day. ... From a coaching standpoint, our relationship has been unbelievable, and it's just going to grow."

lol we'd better HOPE that BOS is ready for BKN's onslaught...

We joke on Kyrie and everything but the angst around here will be real if they can even sniff their potential.....

If Durant is 80% of what he WAS that's STILL a top 12 player in the NBA........and enough to give us serious problems unless Tatum and Brown take a definitive step forward.

They will have some big games through the season while Irving slides back and forth between his bipolar paranoia and grandiose delusions.
Eventually the Nets will end up where all of Kyrie's teams end up - dissolutioned and chemistry gone to hell.
While Kyrie's possible mental health issues need to be taken seriously, what is funny is that the Nets think Durant is the guy who will keep Irving out of the ditches. Durant ain't exactly the picture of a secure, easy-going person who maintains a balanced perspective.

So not only does he think he’s above them all, but he’s not even good for his word? Boston fans were already well aware of this, but how can anyone not see him go back on his word so quickly and react any way other than negatively?

Also lol at him referring to himself as an artist. Chill

I always find it amusing, watching a low/average intelligence person trying to be intellectual and convince others they are "deep" or smarter than they are.

I'm starting to think you're Kyrie's cousin or something.

I love KDs game but you're smoking the same stuff Kyrie been puffing on if you think 80% KD is a top 12 player.

If Nets stay healthy they will be a top end team because it's loaded with talent don't think anyone disputes that.

What most of us probably think is if things don't go perfectly Kyrie will find a way to be a net negative like he did here.

Because Kyrie is rich and famous we call it misunderstood and he's a good guy. However if he worked in your office he'd just be known as an arse.
ok fine

He's a jerk.

But that jerk sure put on a clinic in the first half of that game the other night.

Christmas day is going to be very interesting.

He's a jerk.

million times better than Lebron and Harden though.

But still a very solid 3rd-6th most dislikeable guy in the NBA, arguably top 10 all time.

Laimbeer - 1
Isaiah Thomas - 2
Lebron - 3
Harden - 4
Stockton - 5

Kyrie and Durant around here.

No Kyrie and I aren't related.....but don't count on GreenFaith1819 from Celticstrong to hop on the Kyrie Hate Bandwagon (KHB).

I look at all the facts...

Kyrie ADMITTED that he should've done better here in BOS...should've LEAD better.

Marcus Smart has ALREADY admitted that everything wasn't Kyrie's fault....

It should ALSO be apparent that we have....HAD...two HORSES in The Jays that have been chomping at the bit since our IMPROBABLE (and Al-Horford led) run in 2017-18....and they TOO had issues with GH and Kyrie in that they were STANDING IN THE WAY.....

Add in Rozier and his already ADMITTED pining for more time, behind Kyrie...

Add in that Al Horford - while "A" Leader on the team wasn't a "KG-Like" leader in that I didn't see him as being very vocal.....

Danny Ainge even ALLUDED to already that there was a GLUT of talent on the team, then - and by his DESIGN, admittedly.....in that he was stockpiling talent for a run at a Superstar that didn't even WANT to play in BOS (see Anthony Davis)..............

....and "IF" AD had agreed to sign in BOS long-term don't you (or anyone else, here) think that Jaylen, picks, maybe Smart and a few others would've been SHIPPED OUT to NOH for AD?

I don't blame Danny Ainge....he was planning on AD being ANOTHER KG and AD -  as it turned out - didn't want to play along with Danny's plan.........and how Danny handled the IT4 issue played along with THAT decision, unfortunately....

While it's an unfair label AD, evidently - for better or worse - was turned off by the whole thing.

LOOK - with Kyrie being the MAIN ATTRACTION while in BOS I totally "GET" the angst....but I will NEVER go along with it on here and never have.

Anyone else here who would just look at the FACTS they'll see through the hate, as well.

Been here TOO LONG for that - since Oct 2009.

Check out my posts since Oct 2009, on here....I'm one of the more positive ones here....won't see ME bringing a Game Thread down.

Again - looking at the FACTS BKN could be a powerhouse if things click for them and Durant sniffs just 80% of his ability post-injury.
