I don't think that's true. You have to trade a player into cap space to generate a trade exception.

I think it's the same future pick from draft night.

Thanks for everything Kanter! It's the right move, but I certainly appreciate Kanter defending the C's in the media often and for being a nice team player.

Also interesting that he goes back to Portland now.

I wonder what the C's do next. They certainly need a big man now.

My ideal scenario. Sign Baynes for MLE, and still trade Hayward to IND for a package involving Turner.

So we traded the 30th pick and a serviceable big on a decent contract for a “future Memphis draft consideration?”

Yuck.

Is VP still going out?
I ask because team now only has Theis and TL as Centers and both are 6'8 -240lbs

Pretty indifferent on this move, to be honest.

Bit perplexed as to why Kanter was added to this deal, potentially a sign of other dominos?

Am I naive to think there is some other deal in the works that brings us back a big?  (Turner, ahem).

Going into the season with Theis, Time Lord and Grant as the only bigs seems a bit risky.

That or they know they'll sign a big during Free Agency in a few hours.

It's obviously a salary dump. The question is why. Here's my math.

Scenario 1: If they traded for Oladipo and Turner while sending out Langford, Hayward, and the rights to Payton Pritchard, they'd be under the luxury tax line just enough to offer a little more than a minimum contract to fill out the 14th roster spot.

Scenario 2: If they traded Hayward for Turner and McDermott, they'd be under the luxury tax enough to offer the full MLE to fill out another roster spot. The problem is that they'd already have 15 players. More trades would be needed.

Especially since none of those bigs are that big!
