Wonder what this means for the Harden situation. The latest is that Houston is "intent" on keeping him despite his desire to leave.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

At least the 2021 pick is protected and the 2020 pick is mediocre. Not a bad deal for the Blazers, they needed a guy like Roco if they want to move the needle with McCollum and Liliard now that Nurkic and Collins are back. They really lacked a high level defender on the wing. Slight overpay but worth it imo.

If they sat with the 16th pick. They could have had the chance to draft Nesmith... maybe Saddiq Bey

Covington is substantially better at basketball and, much more importantly for the wing defenseless Blazers, defense.

no one that will potentially elevate them this year, which is really where Portland is at.  They have to go for it and they can't really do much because they don't really have much to trade unless they decide to move McCollum.  They will have a very strong starting 5 next year with Lillard, McCollum, Covington, Collins, and Nurkic.  Right there with Denver I think if their big guys are actually healthy.  Behind the Lakers and probably Warriors and Clippers (really curious to see what the Clippers do), but certainly could be a really tough out in the playoffs.

How is this an overpay? Covington is considerably better and younger than Ariza, this is a guy who'll be one of the best 3 and D players (if not the best) for the next few seasons. You need these elite multi-positional defenders who can shoot on high level teams.

Draft picks are SUPER overrated by this board. Portland gets an All-Defensive first teamer who hits the 3 at a high level. You hope a midlevel first round pick turns out as good as him.

Yep, I agree.  It's a solid move.

This draft is known to contain many 3 and D ready type prospects.  Not as sure as Covington at this time

But then again how effective/how much could Covington carry the rockets in the playoffs? (His past playoffs impact in general)

He is a pure role guy.  Blazers are not at that stage where they are one good role player away either

Effective enough to be the "rim protector" and best defender on a very strong Rockets squad after they switched to microball? His defence isn't DPOY level stuff compared to bigs like Davis/Gobert/Giannis/Draymond, but top tier wing defence is valuable enough to vault a neutral impact player on offence into the top 40-50 range.

"Pure role guys" like Covington are great for teams that need defence and shooting to surround an offensive engine like Portland, he'll make the Blazers a really tough out in the playoffs.

Yeah this is a good get for Portland. Props to them for filling a key need with one of the best players out there they could target for that need. Moving two mediocre 1sts for him is worth it, the chance that one of those 2 picks would become someone as good as Roco in 4 years is slim, and even then in 4 years it would be 4 years too late.
