I feel like Charlotte must have upped their offer recently, well past what Indiana was comfortable with. Indiana, after all, is very budget conscious. Once Hayward agreed then any potential S&T with Indy obviously was moot.

Time for Ainge to retire.

Good grief. Clearly there was nothing we could do with Hayward wanting that money. Indy wasn’t paying him anywhere close to that either, so this was likely less of Danny’s doing abd more Hayward favoring money over everything else.

Yup.  And is also what most people do in their own lives as well.  I don't blame Gordo, and not really DA either, except it would be nice to have a better feel for who out there is a potential suitor.  I mean I would rather have Turner than nothing, but if the 120 mil was on the table DA might have not even had a choice.  Hayward has to agree to resign to the the S&T.

Bingo.

Time for Ainge to retire.

Because a free agent took insane money?

No! because Ainge continues to “not solidify the bench” and better yet take a chance on a free agent that might help the bench or the starting lineup

It’s been 20 hours.

Fak Ainge for messing this up..

I would have been fine with just Turner honestly but he was too greedy..

Wyc is probably fuming we didnt get anything....just plain incompetence.

I’d say Jordan messed this up by offering Hayward a stupid amount of money.  Nothing Ainge could have done.

You can blame Ainge if you want but it’s obvious Hayward took the biggest check he could find. What a gross overpay and shows winning not exactly the biggest thing on Hayward’s mind.

What a bench! The Williams, Edwards, a broken Romeo, semi and two rookies. Plus the bottom of the barrel free agents Danny will target. Had three all stars and lost them all.

For Charlotte, that's a great get.  They need a guy like Hayward on that roster.  Overpaying is the only way they'll get players there.

Calm down, it's been barely two days.

Now that Hayward's salary is completely off the table, what does that open up in terms of space for the C's.

I know they need to reserve room for Nesmith and Pritchard, but doesn't that still leave something in the neighborhood of 10M space.   Can their recent TPEs be used to push first year salary to 15-17M?   This stuff hurts my head, please someone spell out if there is any potential silver lining as to who C"s could sign of remaining FAs.

Pretty much sums it up.

Well this is a disaster. Look In not sure I'd go as far as saying Ainge should be fired, he's a good GM, but in the last couple of years he's

Traded a top 10 pick for Irving
Lost irving for nothing
Lost Horford for nothing
Lost Hayward (return pending)
Let guys like Rozier, Morris go for nothing
Failed to move up in the draft.
Even the saving grace of last year has questions about his Knee.

I mean the Celtics future is now 100% Brown/Tatum, and there are worse places to be. But there will be no cap space for the rest of Kemba's contract. There are no more surplus draft picks left to make. The fate of the team basically relies on the young guys on roster improving enough to A) make the team a contender or B) be flipped for another star. That's it. Theres now a ton riding on Langford, Nesmith, and the Williams'.

Oh Kemba wasn't enough to soothe you? Seriously take a break from Celticsblog and breathe. It'll do you some good what's done is done. Hayward wanted the money and he took it.

Is Kemba a bench player? Nope. Bench is no better now. There isn’t much left in free agency to bring in.
