Even if New York loses its space with another free agent signing, Hayward still could have leverage. He could claim to Indiana he's willing to return to the Cs or is interested in going to a team like the Warriors in a sign-and-trade.

It's too bad that there is not much to get excited about who realistically could come back from the Warriors.  That's of course if GSW sees GH as a win-now replacement for Klay.

Obviously they keep their core: Curry, Green, and  Wiseman.   C's end up with Wiggins on a 30M+ (29M next year) contract for 3 years and then who else? Chriss? Damien Lee?   Add salary and C's will have to give something else back.

Chriss might be a decent get (interested in what others who've seen more of him think about him).  He's young (23) and cheap (only about 2M) but next year is last year on current deal.

No progress has been made in Pacers-Celtics trade discussions for Gordon Hayward, per source.

Chris and Gasper stating that Celts dont want Turner. Not sure how they obtained this source

But that would put a big wrinkle in all of this

Maybe Celts really want Warren as the main return. Pacers do not want to do that

The leverage thing is interesting here.

I do not think Hayward owes the Cs anything but I also do not think there is animosity there. It just didn’t work out and I can understand him wanting to move on for multiple reasons (fresh start, going home, family reasons). I think he told Cs what he wants and they are trying to accommodate. That being said, his free agency options have dried up a little and only the Knicks really have the cap space at the moment to really give him a deal (if they choose to do so).

Hayward wants Indy. I think Indy wants Hayward and they must have had prior conversations about a potential deal for 4 years/$100 mil otherwise Hayward would not have opted out. So I do believe there is definitely mutual interest there.

I do think Indy has some pressure on them as well with Oladipo’s pending free agency looming. I don’t get the sense they are trying to blow it up and rebuild. If they strike out on getting Hayward on a long term deal and Oladipo bolts, they are a lottery team after this season. Think they have as much incentive to get Hayward deal completed as the Cs do tbh.

Seems like only a 3 team trade makes this salvageable.   I'm not surprised; I don't want Turner either.

I am not completely sure who has the more leverage in this negotiation?  I am not sure it is us.  I mean we want this thing done so we can go after other FA's for the rest of the roster.  We want to do a S&T so we don't lose Gordon for nothing.

Indiana doesn't have to do this deal.  They can just stand pat.  The longer this goes on, the more I think Gordon might just walk.

Gordon’s options are a shorter term deal with the Knicks, the MLE or coming back to the Celtics.  He doesn’t have leverage.

But, you’re also right that Indiana is under no obligation.

The only reason he goes to NY is if he HATES it here. I see absolutely no reason why he would choose the Knicks over us. Maybe they would throw a ton of money at him over 2 seasons, but considering we were on the hook for $34M this season, I’d be surprised if we weren’t willing to match an extra season.

Unless there is A LOT more turmoil than we know about (could it political? We all know about Brown’s views and the Haywards appear to be Trump supporters... I could see that being contentious behind closed doors), I don’t see him bolting for anywhere other than Indy. And in that scenario, we have the leverage. We are the only path to Indy, unless he has an under-the-table agreement with NY/Indy to trade him there as soon as they are allowed (usually Jan 15?).

So if the C's don't want Turner, we need another Center, like really badly.
Has Baynes signed anywhere yet?

I do like the thinking from the C's perspective.  Would love the deal to be Warren and Oladipo (or Brogdan).  Would have to send something significant back (Grant, Bob, Romeo? -- doesn't sound like enough to me and I'd want to avoid sending Smart, especially in division).  This has to mean DA has designs on another C.

If true, I hope Ainge has something in place for a center. Maybe he's already got a verbal agreement with someone like Baynes or WCS

Not sure why there are people here who don't want Turner. The dude is a defensive monster and would instantly make us the best defensive team in the league. He can also spread the floor. He would be very similar to what Horford was for us, except more athletic and better defensively.

His defensive rating is actually pretty disappointing, especially when Sabonis is not on the floor with him. He also gets abused by quality centers.
