The NBA may offer the NBPA a 50-game season if the players maintain their position of wanting the season to start on Martin Luther King Day on January 18th. The league is pushing for a 72-game season beginning on Christmas Day.

Because compensation for players adheres to a regular season schedule, a 50-game season would mean a significant reduction in revenues.

The NBA's 72-game model beginning on December 22nd calls for approximately 14 games per month through May, followed by the playoffs through mid-July prior to the start of the Olympics on July 23rd.

The NBA's television partners do not want the 20-21 season to extend past mid-July.

A resolution is expected by next week given the condensed timetable that will be required with either start date.

Well that will feed right into another Lakers title run.

I assume the cap will take a nosedive if this ends up happening, which will severely affect players' contracts going forward.

This coming season is going to stink no matter what.  Empty arenas, shortened season, loaded schedules.  Expect another further dramatic decline in ratings.

Not having to compete against the NFL will increase the ratings.  Fewer games may increase the ratings as well.

Maybe the players will take less nights off and take more games seriously since there's not as many of them.

If they only play 50 games, it will be interesting to see how they distribute those games.  Easiest and fairest might be to drop all East-West games.  Then they'd only need to drop a couple more games for each team.

Yeah, when the players finally realize how much money they're giving up they'll come around.

Health is always a question, but if LeBron and AD stay healthy, I expect them to again come out of the West. Thompson and Curry will be coming off major injuries, and that can be a long process, as we saw with Gordon.

Yep.  The rank and file are going to favor salary over rest.

If thatís what the majority of the players settle for being pressured by the NBAPA and their hierarchy, they donít know they are shooting themselves in their collective foot.

The owners should terminate the current CBA and then the players can rest all they want. Then when they return they will be pretty shocked at the new salary structure and BRI split.
