Aaron Gordon for the #2 pick, even in a weak draft, seems like a stretch to me. I am having a hard time envisioning him as a missing piece in GSW system. His stock dropped a lot last season.
I would imaginea trade would look something like
To GSW: Gordon, Fournier, 15th pick
To Magic: Wiggins, 2nd pick
That would be a steal for the Warriors.
Yeah, people are throwing this out there like it makes sense, but aren't realizing that Fournier is actually the best player in this deal and is only 27 y/o. Including the #15 pick on top of it seems like a stretch.
It's actually pretty funny that these are two trade partners discussed in potential Gordon Hayward deals. Obviously there haven't been any actual rumors and there are major questions as to how this would make us better (although including Fournier in the Gordon deal changes things a LOT), but I wonder if the Cs could get involved.
Well, let's see
Celtics in: Aaron Gordon (19m)
Celtics out: Gordon Hayward (34m), 2021 first round pick
Magic in: Andrew Wiggins (29m), Kevon Looney (5m), Warriors 2nd overall pick
Magic out: Aaron Gordon (19m), Evan Fournier (17m)
Warriors in: Evan Fournier (17m) into Iggy trade exemption, Gordon Hayward (34m), Celtics 2021 first round pick
Warriors out: Andrew Wiggins (29m), Warriors 2nd overall pick
I mean, I could construct narratives as to why this makes sense. The Warriors may want a more proven player like Gordon Hayward as an extra cog in their offense, and he does provide a similar defensive versatility to Harrison Barnes from a few years ago (but not as much as Gordon).
For the Cs, I know people will disagree with me, but I think Gordon could give a little more size inside and could even slide up to the 5 at times. He's also on a great contract that could help the Cs stay out of the luxury tax for another year or two.
Then the Cs could go after someone with almost the full MLE this off-season without going into the luxury tax. Someone like Joe Harris could work. 2021-2022 would start the luxury tax concerns if no other deals were made. For the 2020-2021 season, they would probably start Walker-Brown-Tatum-Gordon-Theis with Smart-Harris-Williams-Williams-Langford-Kanter-Wanamaker off the bench. That seems a bit deeper to me.
