Unfortunately, it’s looking like we don’t have the cap space to execute a sign-and-trade for some of the better free agents out there.  That means if we want a proven NBA shooter, it may have to come via free agency.

Would NOP consider a trade for Redick?

Kanter (after opt-in) + Poirier + Langford + #1?

Who else is out there?

Buddy Hield can be had but probably have to include smart or Hayward plus pick(s) ... the more I think about it the more I like the fit.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Just throwing this out there to add a different name to the mix, but if we really wanted to make a splash, we could make a play for Buddy Hield. He makes $24M next season, but is signed for 4 years and his last season is only $18M (declining contract). Literally just last year, some people were wondering if he might be better than Jaylen. While this take hasn't aged well, he is a fantastic scorer and shooter from outside.

I realize this would likely require Hayward (unless we wanted to cobble together say Smart and Kanter) so I imagine people will say, 'why not just sign Hayward to a similar contract?' And I get it and probably agree, but Hield is younger and doesn't have the same injury concerns as Hayward. Reportedly the Sixers are interested in using Horford and either Shake/Thybulle to bring in Hield, as well, so it would prevent them from greatly improving their team composition.

Edit: Oh, come on NKY. I spent several minutes getting details on Hield's contract and checking Reddit for reports on the Horford/Hield thing and you just come in and say what I did in a way more concise manner. TP to you for beating me to it.

I would have loved Korver a couple of years ago, but he's too old now sadly.

Would do that deal for Redick in a heartbeat. Showed the ability to come off the bench this year.

Tim Hardaway Jr. might be available, as might Seth Curry, but Hardaway's contract is big. We'd probably have to give them a 3rd star type (Hayward or Kemba) in order to pry those two, as I think Dallas will be realising they need a 3rd banana.

Ben McLemore? He was solid in Houston and shot a lot of 3s.

I'd also consider trying to get Bryn Forbes, but again unsure of his availability.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Joe Harris is a nice option. He's a free agent this upcoming off-season. Plus he played with our guys in the USA team last year.

If the Knicks declined team option this off season, Wayne Ellington will also be available.

I like Hield. I genuinely think he's every bit as good as CJ McCollum, just hasn't had the opportunity to play for a good franchise. Obviously finding out his age was a lie, and that he turns 28 in December kinda sucks, but he's a flamethrower

Hayward for Hield...  is that an upgrade for next season?  I’m not sure it is.  Our defense, ball movement, and perhaps chemistry would all take a big hit.

We can’t afford him, and we can’t sign-and-trade for him.

I don't know if MLE is available right now but I think that's his current value on the market. Anything above that is an overpay for any teams.

It's definitely an awkward fit with the current roster construction.  Kemba and Hield really don't fit together.  However, a lineup of Smart, Hield, Brown, and Tatum could be lethal for stretches.  For all the complaints about Smart's shot attempts, I could totally see him thriving as a primary playmaker with that group.

I would seriously look into what it would take to get Luke Kennard here.  He's a light's out shooter and can be a secondary/tertiary offensive facilitator.  Defense is meh, but he does a little bit of everything on offense.

We won’t have the full MLE, only the taxpayer version.

Either way I think he's looking to join any contender or just stay at BKN for more money. But I doubt any contending team will pay more than that.

I think you’re misjudging the market.  He’s coming off an $8 million / year contract, and played extremely well.  I can’t imagine he’d be looking at a pay cut.
