Would Chris Paul help us? I know he gets injured at the worst times but he seemed legit this playoffs and could have helped us against the heat

The best version of this team has Smart on it. I would never ever trade him. especially given what he costs.

So you would still keep him after seeing him pull up to brick 3's after 3's?

Considering he's all defense on the other end of the floor? Yes.

I'm not looking to move him but if someone blows you away I'm not in "keep hi at all cost mode." But that may just be me being angry watching him shoot it 22 times in an elimination game.

You can't fit his contract - but basketball wise, absolutely he could have helped. He'd have taken better care of the ball than Kemba or Smart.

I was thinking of getting him on the team. He is quite close to Tatum too. But the problem is the cost. If we are to get him, we have to get rid of either Hayward or Kemba.

This team goes as far as Tatum and Brown take them. While other 22 and 23 are developing “behind the curtains”, they’re developing on the big stage. This is the OKC/GSW organic growth that is going to continue to develop over time. The roster can stay as is and it will improve because Jaylen and Jayson are improving.

This series exposed Kemba as a liability if he isn’t scoring 30 PPG on solid efficiency. Despite giving good effort on defense, he was constantly targeted and exploited by the opposing team and that will be the norm in the playoffs. Also, the idea of Hayward has been better than the execution.

If a change is made, I’m intrigued by Ibaka, Millsap, Aldridge, Griffin, Vucevic, and A. Gordon as realistic additions for this team.

So absurd.  Our best players are still getting better.

The best is yet to come.
This. They weren't ready to win this season. The best option for improving the team is the degree to which both of them get better, though Jaylen's pretty [dang] good right now.  But the two of them and Kemba need to also figure out how to function better in closing out games.

$41 million cap hit next season, $44 million the following season - and he's 35. You can't commit that kind of money to a guy that old who can break down - though of course that's also proven to be the case with Hayward.

Yeah Chris Paul is a gamer, and would help in these pressure situations, but his contract isn't viable at this point.  Next year he is a year older, a year more vulnerable to serious injury.  Hard pass.

Your cornerstones are JB/JT/Smart.

The best course of action is to run the best five back and then clean up the glut of young players on the bench with some quality veteran  role players (a shooter and a big not named Kanter).

I know everyone is reactionary right now but this team ain’t that far off.

I am pretty much on board with this.  Smart gives you too much on def and intangibles to let him go at his salary.  He is close to the JB / JT timeline.  I really like Smart when he is driving and distributing.

I was one of those who thought we should have kept Smart as our point guard and gone after a different center to fill the Horford / Baynes vacuum.  I learned to really admire Kemba as the glue for the team, but I kind of wonder what a
Smart / Brown / Tatum / Hayward / Adams lineup would have been like.

I mean Theis progressed well during the season and I like him a lot.  But a vet defensive center would have been really valuable.

I don't think that "Best 5" lineup is ever gonna really work. Too much duplication in skillet. Too small, frankly.

I think the best version of that group is gonna feature two different guys in place of kemba and hayward.

Jayson Tatum on a potential contract extension: "That's a tough question to answer. I haven't even thought about that yet. I'm just focused on this season. That's a process that the front office and my agent need to talk about. We just lost, that's all I'm thinking tonight."

That's quite a creepy thing to say. Thought he'd say something like he's a "Celtic for life." In today's league, you have friends wanting to team up and form superteams. I don't know if he'll have his heart here in Boston in the next few years, but what I do know is the Celtics better be in the Finals in the next two years. Otherwise, he may just have his eyes set at another team. Like the Fakers because of his hero Kobe.

I don't know man, I'm inclined to give the kid a break, they literally asked him 20 mins after the game ended. Think of how we were all feeling 20 mins after the game ended and we expect kids to give us definitive responses on their future?

Here's what he said by the way:

Quote
“That’s a tough question to answer,” Tatum said, when asked about the potential for a long-term stay in Boston. “I haven’t even thought about that yet. I was just focused on this season. The front office and my agent have to talk about it. But I’m not thinking about that right now. We just lost a series. Just thinking about the guys in the locker room and the games. That’s what I’m thinking about. Stuff like that, going to happen -- if it happens -- not really my concern, I’m not even thinking about that.”

“I’ll think about the great season we had, the great players, great job by everyone,” Tatum said. “It was a hell of a year, and I enjoyed it. I appreciate everybody. This was fun. I’m not really thinking about the other stuff right now.”

That said if I was a betting man I think he signs his rookie max extension. He'd be crazy not to. That's an opportunity to create generational wealth that no other team can give him. How many players have given that up?

I think he'll sign his rookie max extension too, but just thinking into the long-term future. If the C's continue to be perennial ECF playoff exits then he might have a change of heart and pull an Anthony Davis. The East isn't getting any easier next year when Irving/Durant are returning to the starting lineup for the Nets, Miami being dangerous, Bucks and 76ers getting healthy, Raptors looking solid again. They need to win an NBA Finals in the next two years. Ainge needs to get his team some help.
