But then what is the idea of doubling/blitzing Walker and Tatum but not Brown - Raptors strategy?

I can't wrap my my head around it

For the Heat, is it because Butler is guarding Brown and Heat want to avoid any kind of foul trouble?

Blitzing is normally done against a team's best shot creators to get the ball out of their hands. They are betting that if they force Theis, Brown, Smart, Semi, or Williams to make a play going to the rim or create a shot for someone else, they would fair better than allowing Tatum and Walker to go at a set defense.

Except they are blitzing Brown as soon as he gets the ball but not doubling Tatum.

I think they are playing to Browns weak passing and ball handling by forcing him into bad decisions and poor ball movement to disrupt our offense

I think if Hayward runs the offense though their defensive plan goes out the window

What about Walker?  Are they considering him a poor passer/decision maker?

When is Hayward coming back again?

Except that Brown made some decent reads at the start of the game and got rewarded for it by getting frozen out of the offence.

I don’t think they’re blitzing brown. But they did double brown in the post a few times when he had a mismatch. This is because our perimeter players are a problem because they’re strong inside and outside. The reason Tatum doesn’t get doubled as much is because he already draws their best defender (like Butler) whereas Brown gets matched up against a smaller guy.

When we post up though and get doubled, we’re usually at the mercy of the % of an open Theis/Grant/Semi three (or travel)

Think of it like chess. Our opener is a kemba jayson pick and roll. Pick and roll is the best offense currently in the NBA and both of those 2 are lethal in it (both can drive and shoot 3s). If you go under the PnR, you eat a 3. If you go over it, you give up a layup, or a drive and kick for a 3.

They are playing the 3rd option a gambit (a sacrifice ) by potentially allowing a wide open shot to stop that by trapping the ball handler. You don't see it often because typically teams want to take their chances on the PnR.

I think that it's not a particularly good idea considering everyone on our roster can nail a 3, but I'm sure someone in their analytics department has calculated it's the right call.

Walker is more susceptible to being blitzed because of his size.  This strategy is not new.

I hate also how Spol is telling Adebayo to sag and not blitz/come close during PNR D

I wish in this case, with Timelord or Theis having momentum to the basket,  Walker or Tatum would lob a pass for alley dunk or layup

They are not making Adebayo pay. He is guarding the paint too easily and Celts are limited to perimeter ball. Especially in the 4th

this is on Brad.  I mean if he is going to employ Grant Williams, when he is free... you should keep hitting him for the 3 point shot.

Instead its like he doesn't exist on the court.  Heat are cheating off of him

I rather Grant Williams hoist 4 or 5 open 3s vs Tatum and Walker taking 2 extra shots

I said this during the game - Walker’s gotta blitz the double and force them to contain him. He can split bigger guys and force fouls. He can find cutters to the middle / paint when there’s a high trap. I expect them to address this today during film sessions.
