Great move.

How??

NAsh is going to be in hell trying to deal with pouty Kyrie

Goodluck in having him commit to playing defense

Yeah, I mean, you're right of course, but that problem will be there for any coach. I just mean having a super well-respected league legend might help to iron out egos.

And he's a great communicator.

He knows the pressure and knows offense so maybe it works out.

Free flowing offence no defense will win them an insane amount of regular season games. They will put up MVP monster numbers. They will be a second round out because defense isn't something you just turn on as a team.

Great hire will make for ESPN highlights and fun conversations on where it all went wrong when outted early.
ok fine

Jason Kidd vol. 2?

I mean, it's a huge risk. Just because Nash was a HOF-level player, it doesn't mean that he'll become a good coach.

If the Nets were in rebuild mode, I would have understood the risk of hiring a rookie coach. The C's did the same thing with CBS back in 2013. Thing is, the Nets will be in win-now mode next season. Imo, they should have hired an experienced coach.

yeah this was my first thought too

i guess the current mgmt wasnt there when they hired jason kidd

but that totally tanked
and this looks really similar on the surface

i guess u never know. i like nash
but yeah, rookie coach w Kyrie and championship expectations??

could get ugly

and i'd be so OK with that! haha :)

In one of the many anti-Kyrie articles out there, I believe I read one of the divides when he was with Boston was he thought only he knew what it took to win a championship because only he had done it (though technically Baynes too), so the rest of the team needs to listen to him.

Obviously not a trump card he can pull on Durant, but it's something he might try to pull on Nash when the inevitable disagreements happen (I don't think being a consultant with the Warriors will carry much weight).

It’s not like Kyrie is coachable anyway.

I don't know.  I respect the decision not to pick from the usual group of mediocre cast-off coaches.  Who knows, maybe Nash is a natural at it.  But this just doesn't seem like the time to reach on a gamble like this.  The Nets appear poised to contend, and any incoming coach is going to have to manage Kyrie.  This is a big task for somebody who has never coached before.

IMO this is a mistake, but we'll see.

I like Nash a lot, but if he thinks he will be able to make a free-flowing, pick-and-roll offense with Irving as the point guard, he's gonna have a tough time. Irving and Durant do need to move the ball some, but in the end, both of them are more iso players than anything.

I think it kind of makes sense. Both Kyrie and Durant are Divas. I think they are somewhat more likely to listen to/respect somebody that played the game at an MVP level more than some new college coach or a guy who was an NBA reserve. And Nash evidently had a relationship with KD in Golden State.

So we'll see, I like it better than some retread NBA coach. At least there's a chance he ends up a top 10 coach. Sure, maybe Nash isn't anything special, but I think an "upside" play makes sense.

I like that Nash spent some time on Warriors coaching staff before becoming a Head Coach.

The only way it can work is if Nets adopt a Rockets type support for Kyme, Durant

Dinwiddie and Levert stays. I dont imagine most others sticking around

I can see Nets try to make a play for Tristant Thompson.  Covington.  Above average defenders and 3 point shooters.

And Nash can show his MVP trophies in return lol. I don't see Kyrie disrespecting Nash, Nash was levels above the lad in his prime as an offensive GOAT candidate.

Its crazy how many people defended Kyrie

Kemba is a major upgrade for the Celtics. Overall love the way the Celts are playing right now. Example Tatum, Kemba passing up shots in order to ride Smarts 3 point shooting fire.  Would never happen with Kyme on the team.

We all knew Walker is a clutch shooter. But his defense has surprised me. Plays hard with physicality unlike...

Just listened to Steven A's take.  He thinks Nash will do a great job, but calls this Exhibit A of White Privilege: A white person with zero coaching experience, being given this opportunity.  However you feel about "white privilege", one has to admit that guys like Jackson, Lue and Cassel, who have paid their coaching dues must be feeling the effects of it.  Of course if anything the finger should be pointed at the two Black stars who reportedly endorsed the hiring of Nash as the HC.
