Not delusional at all, he's still an NBA quality player. He's just as good as Kuzma.

Whether or not he fits in Portland is another question. Lillard and McCollum are already below average defenders. If he wants to stay there good for him, but I question the fit

I'm wondering what kind of player would Melo be had he faced and experienced the same challenges he did in the last few years.
(Being waived, traded, questioning his own abilities, being more in touch with teammates, working hard to be in great shape...)

I kinda think that he would be a much better player. Not by his individual stats, but by teams success.

I find it interesting, even educational.

Melo still has a role in the NBA.  But that role is probably 6th/7th man, not starter.  I think he'd embrace that role at this point.

I think Melo would be great coming off the bench. But ultimately if Portland really wants to contend they need to somehow find and add an elite wing player. Melo is not that anymore.

Another possibility would be to make a trade for Embiid or Simmons from the Sixers and then from there, depending on what trade you make, fill in the roster appropriately.

Portland and Philadelphia are kind of stuck with what they have and that's why I could see them as good trade partners. They've each got to try something different.

He’s definitely got some game still.  I wouldn’t want him as a starter, but he seemed to carve out a role in Portland.

It was cool to see him step in and step up.

He's definitely worthy of another contract, but clearly it has to be the right fit.
