Against Toronto, we were at our best when Smart was on the floor from what I could see.  The starters would build a lead, the depleted bench would give it up.

I think under these circumstances, you continue to go with a core team of Smart, Walker, Brown, Tatum, and Theis for your money line up.  If Hayward can reinforce the second unit some, that would be huge.

If you want to go by stats alone, it is Kemba Walker who should sit but that would make even less sense than sitting Smart.

We are better with Hayward in the mix, we can really use the added depth, but coming off injury, he is not going to give us more than Marcus.  And maybe there are stretches where we can go really small and have Hayward in for Theis but Theis has been playing well too.  We will need him on the floor at crunch time.

I'm treating Hayward as a bonus at this point. We've gotten this far without him and I am confident in the group of guys we have. Gordon would be a big addition to the team, he makes everyone he plays with better with his unselfishness and his vision but his health and availability isn't something we can control so I've long ago come to terms with him possibly missing the entire playoffs. I understand the need to be with your family and your spouse for the birth of a child. There's players missing throughout these playoffs, whether due to injury or opting out for Covid. It happens, the team has to deal with adversity, very rarely do you get perfect conditions to win. I would be happy for anything he can give us, whether it's one game or seven. I'm confident in whichever team we put out, I think they will make a good showing.

Gordon Hayward went through a hard "small group" workout post-practice rather than participating in the Boston's official practice. Stevens said he looked good, but he's unsure of what that means as far as Hayward's availability for Game 1.

Kind-of crazy that Hayward hasn't been ruled out for game 1 yet. It would be incredible to work him in and get some productive games out of him before he leaves the bubble again.

Spoke too soon:

Gordon Hayward has officially been ruled out for Game 1.

If Hayward isnt even yet participating in full practice activities then it feels like he's probably still at least (or about) a week away.

There's really not much "practice" going on at the moment, mostly resting.

Ya I mean there's also the fact we're 4 weeks into a 4-6 week injury, I dont think saying he may miss another week is that controversial.

I think he's available around Game 3 or 4, but I wouldn't rush it still.  See how the C's are playing and maybe we get to the finals without and then he's ready to go.

An encouraging observation about Gordon's return from CelticsBlog's Keith Smith:

"Celtics in 5. This may be a bold prediction, as the series could easily go six or seven games. The thinking is that Gordon Hayward looked good from the glimpses we saw of him, and all reports are that he’s close to being back. If he can play at or near the start of the series, Boston just has too much offense for Miami."

No, but he does need to get comfortable with his ankle again and get back in a rhythm (both for himself and with his teammates). Being comfortable with cuts/basketball moves is really the biggest thing, though; it's not like replacing Semi with Hayward (once he's physically comfortable) would throw off any offensive rhythm.
I'm bitter.

Exactly.  It’s not just about the ankle not hurting.  It needs to get conditioned back into shape.

So Sunday night Weiss wrote an article that supposedly said Hayward was still leaving the bubble for the birth.

Today Weiss tweets this:

Says Stevens is being sarcastic in one tweet, then says he's insisting he was serious on not knowing about Hayward leaving.

Clear as mud lol.

So he might not come back until potentially Game 6 or 7

Bring the family into the bubble and have the baby there. Gordon's first son can be the bubble boy.
