Funny how a couple months ago I got some criticism in the 2020 Historic Draft (1999-2020) for selecting Jimmy Butler at #41, while Paul George was selected at #17 and didn't receive any criticism. (a bit salty I know)
Not too sure about this pick...I think it might be a slight reach unless you take his 19-20 season at face value
I think Jimmy Butler is not that far behind Paul George. Not that far of a reach here, I had Paul George as a second round player and Butler as a third round player.
I think there's a significant difference between the two - I think George is flat out a better player on both ends of the court.
I don't think it's particularly harsh, given what we've seen with Butler. On the Heat he's unquestionably the man, with guys who are for the most part lesser, but almost custom made to suit Butler. The only guy who could question Butler's alpha status is Bam, and he's still young.
However, when we've seen Butler with guys of equal or superior talent, he's caused issues in the locker-room with them and hasn't stayed long. Was in Minny for a brief period and was a jerk there, and didn't stay in Philly for very long. I think that is more telling for the All-Time draft as Butler would be the 4th/5th starter, and as a non-shooting ball-dominant playmaker that's not a role that suits him.
