2nd NBA bubble?

Apparently the NBA is considering a second bubble in Chicago for games between teams that were not invited to Orlando.

I'm surprised that these teams want to play, and that people think there would be enough demand for watching those games.

There's only one way to make this interesting, if they're only inviting non-playoff teams. Have them play around 8 games, like in Orlando. Then base those results on a "March Madness" bracket, with single elimination. Winner gets the higher number of ping pong balls in the draft. Have this tournament determine the draft order, with winning being the incentive.

I guess but what kind of money are they going to get out of this, if any? Who's going to pay to watch those games or advertise on TV if they are broadcast?

They'll get some money. I think I read somewhere that the NBA is already dishing out over 150M just to set up the bubble in Orlando. So maybe by doing this, they can get some more money to offset that, or maybe even make some profits. But yeah, this won't get nearly as much as what Orlando's resumption will get.

They’ll hit the minimum number of games to get the full money for the RSN agreements for those 8 teams.

Also, if Klay Thompson and Steph Curry enter the bubble to shake off some rust before next season, they’ll have some star power, although that’s unlikely.

The other thing it does is sets up a backup location in case they need to move their bubble from Orlando to somewhere else should things turn south there during the playoffs.
