With 8(13), the Toronto Raptors select a strong two way big man who was a top 20 player at his best for some excellent Kings teams:

Vlade Divac

Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Personally surprised Jordan lasted this long, and that the pick is not being heralded as a steal.

First of all, you just have the name recognition.  But especially now with everyone deep into their bench, you're telling me every team has 7-8 guys better than '01 MJ (and if you're creative, I'm down for arguing for a never-been-seen '00 MJ, though I know most aren't as accepting of that creative thinking)?

Looking at several SG/SF already drafted like Joe Johnson, Allan Houston, Eddie Jones, Richard Hamilton, Andre Iguodala etc. I think Jordan's '01 season was arguably better than their best.  Of course the obvious counter is those guys are being used as role players who do 1 specific thing well (shoot, defend, etc.), whereas how well is 38 year old Jordan going to fit in a league not lacking for scoring?

Still, I think the argument is, 38 year old Jordan, at 10-15 minutes a game off the bench, will take his game to an even higher level, not having to carry a team and play the whole game.

Jordan would have been a steal 2 rounds ago.  I don't know even know what to call this.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Good pick. I was hoping Vlade would last a bit longer. A lot of similarities to Marc Gasol.

With the 14th pick in the 8th round, the Dallas Mavericks select Bruce Bowen.

Love Mike, but no way he was a better defender than AI at this point in his career.

Name recognition? Heck you could've drafted him in the 1st round as a SG for that.

But realistically at this point in his career not better defensively than AI - especially Finals MVP AI.

As a matter of fact - when I saw him play in his latter years in WAS he was noticeably slower....no doubt a VERY smart player but slower.

I wouldn’t have drafted MJ before the 12th round.  His production just didn’t deserve it.  His eFG% was .420, and his defense was way below average.

He was a sideshow, not an actual all-star level player.

Also, I think he and Kobe would have struggled together, as the aging alpha has to accept his successor.

But, it’s certainly fun to think about.  I’m thinking of drafting some broken down stars in the 13th and 14th.

Interested in moving my ninth and tenth round picks for two selections in the middle of that range.

Loved the Andre Miller pick. I had commented that team needed a grandfather figure to calm the offense down when T-Mac, AI, etc. made the offense too unstructured. Andre Miller is the absolutely perfect player for that role. Ratliff is a terrific complement to Blake off the bench, or Marion and AD if you want to really stifle your opponent. Loved those selections.

I've been shocked that JO last this long, and am excited for the combinations of him, Ben, and LMA. I think that team is one big away from having a really nice and flexible rotation.

Same with Tyson Chandler - his addition makes that team really flow. I'd almost consider starting him alongside Dirk so Joel can be the main option off the bench. That clears up the "who is doing what" conundrum. Let one of them be the bona fide focal point when they are on the floor.

Nobody is scoring on Dallas' wings. Awesome stuff.

The two picks I liked but am questioning the fit: Boozer as a backup big without a strong center complement next to him. I think he's too limited to thrive next to Shaq, and he and Horford don't have the size to play together against some of the other frontlines. I also love the talent of Agent Zero, but am worried about too many problems in one locker room. There are definitely a few lockers rooms that will have some interesting dynamics...I'm not convinced that should matter TOO much in this contest, but is fun to think about everyone getting along between Jimmy, Dwight, Arenas, etc.

His production, defense, was way below average for Jordan, not league wide.  Also that was for 35mpg on a bad team.  Imagine him playing 10mpg on a stacked team.  I think he'll look closer to classic MJ.

I don’t think he had it in him.  A .420 eFG% is way below average production.  It’s an unanswerable question, but I didn’t see anything in his play to suggest that his poor play was a factor of minutes.

MJ was being double and triple teamed on the regular in Washington because their team was so bad. Imagine how much better he could be playing against single coverage. Also imagine a bump in his three point shooting from playing in today's league. And playing against weaker defenses with no hand-checking.

Really loved those early 2000 Kings teams...

Still a few binkies left for them on the board, too.
