David Beckham's Inter Miami finally get going and it seems newer franchises are finding quick success in this league. Any hopes the New England Revolution will get relevant soon?
Relevant how? Become a relevant MLS team that can make a lot of MLS Cup matches again, maybe win one? Become a team that becomes relevant on the Boston sports scene? Become a relevant international soccer team that can attract stars?
Relevant how?
I'd imagine he means in terms of popularity. All sports teams in Boston seemingly have a very dedicated and wide-spread fan base, while the Revolution rank pretty low in MLS attendance. Even leaving out ATL and SEA who just crush every other city (over 52,000 and 40,000 respectively), you have much smaller market teams like Cincinnati, Portland, Orlando, San Jose, SLC, KC who all easily beat NE.
It's odd, but other major bottom dwellers are from big cities also, like CHI, DAL, HOU, and PHI. Maybe it's like college football/basketball where there are pro-teams in those major regions and they just don't care about the college teams.
Anyway, being from Orlando (for most of the year), it is great to see such a supportive and excited fan base. Of course the Magic are here, as well, but Tampa is over an hour away (never mind the Rays in St. Pete) so it gives the city another major team to support.
